I tend not to bother about whether I like towns or not, but concentrate on institutions, or sometimes even individual people. For example, I could only bear Seatown Forest because of Goram and MWS, Seatown because of Bobby Atwell, and so on. Lake Village I positively despise since the Aries incident. Had my character had steel weapons of any value, he would have turned bandit at that point, I think.
In fact the whole Lake Quillanoi region reminds me a lot of the KDS region. Characterized far too much by overbearing characters/players who do nothing for newcomers to the game or indeed anyone else trying to get ahead. The exception there is Quillanoi Forest. Very very pleasant indeed.
Drojf is the pits. Brunoi is death by boredom. Zuzi is no longer fun. Naron has lost its identity and will soon fall to bits. The whole Xiria region was designed by a masochist... The list is endless.
However, I also like Baaak thanks to Theodore, though I'm not sure if his effort to set up private trading "monopolies" for various established people will really work. Akypor, too, has some more potential now thanks to Mol and Heaven.
I'm unable to speak of the K Island because I have no characters there. All my characters tend to spawn in an arc from the Baaak/Zhift region through to Seatown. I've been killing the last few off repeatedly and starting over and over and over. But they always end up in this region.
I consider the figure of 9000 towns a bit silly, to be honest. Perhaps the New Lands department could be retired...put out to grass. The world should by now have been made to wrap around somehow, and the figure given suggests that it is in any case already far far too big.
What we do need desperately is more development of resources and uses for them within the existing areas. Even for existing resources. It is absurd that you can have digging machines for clay when all it seems to be used for is making kilns. What about clay pots, clay roof tiles? Ways of dressing up existing buildings, new clothing materials from existing resources and so on. Not to mention the "introduction" of bronze which turned into a complete abortion. All people thought about was adding to the endless list of the same old weapons. What about building name-plates, sculptures, medallions...
What should one rationally trade one's iron for in most places? Answer: nothing. We don't even have a well-developed barter economy yet and people are suggesting currency? Nonsense!

Right now 9000 towns might be silly, but if the game grows, it still needs enough locations. Now there is a lot to explore, which is interesting for many people
Oh, to respond to someones question earlier: no, not all 9000 have names. The whole idea of dynamic naming was introduced to speed up the creating of new towns. Not because we needed new towns, but because the islands I had designed had to be filled
The New Lands department already stopped designing islands. Too much of the seas are being sailed to be able to add islands without altering history, so to speak. So no islands are created. The only thing New Lands still has to do is adding roads - not all locations are connected fully - and animals in some places. All other work is done. Later on, New Lands might be needed when new features require islands to be added.

The size of the world in terms of surface has not changed and is still as initially designed. It's not *too* big, I think - some ships have already practically sailed around the world. Imagine when we introduce planes or faster ships - the world should still be cool to play. I've always assumed that the game would modernize someday and you need scale to keep it interesting.

This is done by different people and is an entirely separate issue.

Just wait and see ......

These require programming, which takes a lot of time, can only be done by very few people, and only adds to an already huge list of pending features and bug repairs. I'm sorry, but you have to be patient here, unfortunately. I would really like those too ...
