Spawning Algorhitm...

Postby boomhaeur » Tue May 24, 2005 4:54 pm

Just a thought. The spawning system right now seems a little flawed and limits the ability for a couple of characters to role play an isolated community.

I've got one character who stumbled across an isolated place and soon a second char joined him (both male). They've each been building their houses but all of a sudden it seems like we're getting daily newspawns.

I understand the concept of multiple people in a location attracting newspawns - but it seems like it happens a little too quickly. I've also had a char spawn in an odd location where there were two people for the briefest of moments.

Perhaps it would make sense to have the spawning system have a certain amount of time between when there are multiple people in a location and (Say 10 years or something) when the spawns start arriving.

I thought that spawning in busy places had been taken out for the English area, and it was just random?

I've got a character on the border of Spanish and German territories. He and his friend have been there for at least a couple of years farming pineapples to heal his friend's injuries and they've seen very few passers by and no new spawns at all, despite almost constant activity!

I agree. I haven't had a character spawn on Cantr/Quil/Blaman island for at least 20 cantr-years. They've all been on the K-isle or the KDS one.

Alternate language groups have spawn towns rather than people-centric spawning.

True. It's as bout as random as a sixshooter loaded with five bullets. Wanna play Russian Rullet?

Not valid anymore for the German group - it has people centric spawning.

There should be a higher chance of getting spawned away from your previous characters. I used to have about half and half on Cantr island and KDS island but now I have only 3 out of 15 on KDS, 1 on the Swedish region, the rest on Cantr island, mostly on Quillanoi/Reniov regions. I've had 1 on K-island, not that I'd want to go there... So something should be changed.

Yeah in terms of where your own chars end up I find I've got mine stumbling all over each other all the time. Trying to keep them seperate is almost a full time job.

Your assumption is wrong here ;) ... The grouping of characters on one island is due to the randomness, not to a lack of it ;) ... Just as a random system means there is a chance they'll all be separated, it means there is one they'll all be together ...

The solution is to make it less random by adding restrictions - i.e. have characters spawn a minimum distance from each other. Plans for this are in the works and I think Thomas is working on this :) ...
