Also, I've come to terms with Cantr not being like rl. It's like Cantr. I took a while to figure that out.

But your chars don't need to know the names of every building in every town. I see buildings everyday that I'm not sure about because they aren't labeled. They may be houses or businesses or construction sheds. In some cities it's pretty easy to guess their purpose from the way they look. In some you just can't tell. I'll never know unless I have some reason to talk to someone about them.

Good, thus, Cantr needn't become tedious like real life.
And most of the buildings (around here), if not all, are labeled in some manner. So what if they're all labeled? It does not solve the issue of having to rename each building/location/vehicle each time you set foot in a new town.
However, if you were to implement building 'titles/signs' and have that automatically be what enters into your char's knowledge (which would be changeable), I wouldn't mind it so much.

You could walk past the building I live in without having the slightest clue what it was called. The vast majority don't advertize their names in any way, no matter where you are.
Also what Kinvoya said, and...how is this creating more work for everyone, again?

It's the small towns that have the most mysterious and perplexing buildings, I find.
I'm sad about potentially loosing a lot of the history in building and city names also but that is what happens. Look at the empires (Troy!) which have dissapeared and been completely buried under a mountain of sand. And there are other remnants of giant cities that we will never even know the name of.
Powerful factions within societies rise and fall. Some are remembered and some are not. At least, so far, libraries aren't burned to the ground destroying all traces of history.

But why undo what societies we already have!?
ah, so you don't mind that newspawns will not know these things? but so longs as we don't forget the existing names?
That sounds like a workable compromise

Yes, as I said before, new spawns and new locations can not know where the hell they are...but as for characters that have been around, and do know, should know, and not forget. Unless you're roleplaying an amnesiatic (sp?).
