I like to treat bad spelling sort of as speech impedements or accents in game. Within reason of course. I'll admit I'm guilty of frequent typos in flurried conversations.

Actually. I would like to see accents develop develop really well. That would be so cool, but really hard to pull off as it would probably take a large concentration of good roleplayers.

Well, what's so special about a common laborer in Cantr (right, other than the fact that they're needed to perform work)? Anyone can be a simple, quiet laborer (yes, even with the skills system  ), but it takes something special to be a philosopher, scientist, poet, writer, musician, etc. and that should be recognized. In that particular society, maybe those simple laborers would be eliminated before they even get the chance to revolt. Maybe any newspawn would be killed if they showed no intellectual promise.

But, that is just what I would like to see in Cantr. Maybe it isn't even possible. Maybe there aren't enough players that want to put in some effort to create a character like what I have mentioned, or perhaps most players do not have time for that, because it would indeed be time-consuming. Maybe there aren't even enough players capable of having a character that writes poetry, stories, or even just a character that can speak proper English because they, as a player, are incapable. *shrugs* There's a lot of "maybes." (And don't kill me for saying that some players are incapable of doing those things, because there are, for various reasons, and there's nothing wrong with that.)

Seko: I don't believe it would be right to mention errors in a character's speaking if the errors produced the same end result as an error-free speech . . . such as the difference between "to" and "too." But, failure to punctuate the end of a sentence or a completely incorrect spelling (or typo) of a word is fair game in my opinion. I think it would be up to the players to figure out that typing in all caps is shouting (most people know that already, anyways). If they really can't figure that out, maybe a short private OOC message would be in order.

Actually . . . haikus are an OOC concept . . . maybe something more original invented IC would be better.

Actually, to and too sound slightly different. And can cause confusion.

Heh, nice.... :D

The english language is apparently one of the hardest to learn for non-natives... Or so I've been told by various people, including several (very attractive) dutch girls.

I'd love to see more interactive things, real simple. Like whittling. You see a man in his sixties add some wood to carving an elephant (trinket). Wouldn't it be swell to only carve things you had seen with your own eyes? Fun Fun.

One of my characters has actually done some whittling. Nothing to show for it without the actual project, but it was RP'd anyway.

Not sure if anyone appreciated it though.

What I would like to see, and what I think Cantr really needs, is more opportunity for artistic expression.

I would love to have a char who makes sculptures from clay (and marble if it's ever found). There must be some way to program things which are unique. I could make the sculpture in rl but I'm no good at figuring out how to program it or whatever...but I know some of you are. Isn't there some way? Same with wood carvings, music, jewelry, clothing, etc.

To be able to create in a way other than rp and writing would make the game much more fun for me and I think it is an essential aspect of social development. The point at which rl communities became able and willing to support full-time artists is an important demarkation of social and economic development.

The most obvious problem with sculpture is that cantr has essentially no visual component, and has a very obvious lack of any 3-d places for purely 3 dimensional art forms to inhabit.

You could reasonable create a 'sculpture' object with a lengthy creator-specified description so people should know what it looks like, but I think that's one of the worst ideas possible for cantr.

The next most obvious is that the game engine has no sane way of calculating the time or material it would take to make some random bit of statuary.

 You're right. I just get desperate for a more tactile Cantr world sometimes. When are we going to be able to plug in sensory suits and actually step into Cantr?

Wait. That's probably a really, really bad idea.

The ability to hit people with cars while traveling. It could make some cars not go as fast as they could. And if they did, it would highly increase the risk of hitting someone.

Dunno. I think it'd be funny to run someone over with a sportscar or mini-van.
