Real time

So has anyone counted how much real life time is in one Cantr minute?

Well, a Cantr day has 8 hours, each of 36 minutes, so a Cantr day is 288 Cantr minutes.

A Cantr day is equivalent to 25 real hours (so the roll-over doesn't favour one part of the world all the time). 25 real hours is 1500 real minutes.

And if 288 Cantr minutes is 1500 real minutes, then one Cantr minute is 5.21 real minutes.

Unless I've got my sums wrong, that's 5 minutes 12.6 seconds.

However since the move to the new server the roll over seems to be happening at the same time each day,C. 9.30am GMT - about 30 mins before this post

A Cantr day now seems to be 24 RL hours so a Cantr minute is 5 RL Minutes

I may be wrong about this but I'm sure I would have noticed the hourly creep

Wouldn't it just be simpler to have easier numbers, I mean 36 minutes in an hour thats pretty ridiculous.

Well considering a cantr minute works out to five real life minutes, I don't think the figures are really that obscure...

Are numbers like 36 and 8 really any more rediculous or awkward than 24 or 60? I work for solicitors, and they always count their time in units of 6 minutes, because it's 1/10 of an hour.

As so many other things in Cantr have numbers that don't match real life, I don't see why time should.

If we used real world time, whose real world time would we use? GMT? EST? It'd always be wrong for most of the players and right for the lucky few whose time zone got chosen. If we use something arbitrary, it's equally odd for everyone.

There's also the fact that so much in Cantr depends on time, and if we used real time, then server problems couldn't be taken into account. If the server goes down for six hours, then nothing should have happened in the Cantr world during that time, and it's probably quite easy for the people who deal with that kind of thing to makes sure that's the way it works. If we tied the time to the real world, then time would either jump on by six hours when the server gets back to nromal, or the Powers That Be would have a hellish time trying to get it all sorted out again.

I'm not very smart you know. I drifted my way through maths at school and spend most of my time drinking, smoking and sleeping. I really don't understand what the hell your on about!

GMT

There is your answer. We would use GMT, as Jos is Dutch. None of this EST rubbish.

But then, I don't have a problem with Cantr time. So who cares?

The Majority of Cantr's players are from North America.

So? GMT is what the entire world standard is. If any real time was to be chosen, that would be the obvious one.
