Destroying/Reclaiming Items
I would like to suggest (again, but I couldn't find the original thread) that all items that we can make (barring notes if that's still the policy), we can also destroy.
I would like to see an option to destroy, or perhaps reclaim, an object. Destroying it would get rid of it totally and possibly leave over *some* remnents of the original materials. Reclaiming it would split it down into its component parts or materials (more applicable to modular items).
This would ideally apply to all tool, weapons, protection, transport, buildings, machines, road upgrades, clothes - everything a player could concievably create ought to have the option to destroy.
It may well be appropriate to require tools to destroy an object. It would seem logical that to destroy something you require some kind of hammering or cutting tool, but to reclaim it you need the tools used to create it.
Furnaces could be used for total destruction, the downside of this being total loss of all materials (trading speed for recycling).

at first I'd like to see some kind of basic implementation, but a more desirable system would work by lowering the "wear" value of an object to the point of failure, whereby it is destroyed. Although that isn't applicable to reclaiming, which requires a more intact object to get the parts from.
A project would suit that kind of implementation as well as be in keeping with the style of Cantr.

It seems like a good idea to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen any indications that buildings decay. Seems kind of unrealistic and a sort of black hole for resources.
Actually, would it be too comlicated to be able to retrieve wood etc from unfinished projects? Would be a way to cut down on orphaned projects and probably keep the thieves happier

Buildings don't decay very quickly... Generally the thieves just 'rob out' walls - i.e. nick the materials the walls were made from.
Damn them.

This thread gave me an idea. I think items that deteriorate all the way should end up as resources again. Just a thought though.
But that would suggest that a wood shack falls over and turns into a tree wouldn't it? And are the resources non-renewable? I haven't seen one get used up yet. If they aren't then the end result would be equivalent to the building decaying into nothing. It would make more sense if the building just ended up on the ground in a pile as an object, say 25% of the wood from the shack was salvageable.
Also, if it became a resource you would have to put the work in to gather it again, which would be a project on another project. I'll stop now because I don't want to start another tiredness/complicated manufacturing thread.

No, a wooden shack would fall into a pile of wood. I am sure some of it wouldn't be usable, but it wouldn't all be useless. What I am saying is that if a hammer breaks it wouldn't become completely useless there would still be some stone and wood that could be reused to build a nother hammer. I would especially like to see this initated before buildings and vehicles start to decay. I would also like to see vehicles never decay as they are rare as it is.

Ah. I see. Yes that sounds like a good idea.
Speaking of cars, could there be a project to strip a car for parts after after you steal it?
Time: 1 turn (smooth criminal)
Tools: Stone (cinder blocks), tire iron
