Spice up the Swedish area...

Postby Pirog » Tue Dec 07, 2004 8:25 pm

I think something must be done about the Swedish area.
It is almost crippled since it lacks a lot of vital resources.

To not have coal or clay is one thing...but since there are no animals giving hide people can't even make basic tools.
Everything demands very hard work and without hide people can't even build cots to rest.
It is really hard to recruit Swedish players when they start in an area even less developed than the stone age...

I second that.

Maybe add in flying lizards, they could easily come there without anything supernatural in it because they can fly. And I think they have hide. Lots of hide because the wings are *thiiiis* long!

Hehe, that sounds like yet another lethal animal...haven't the poor Swedes had enough of that?

Mammoths then?! :D Huh, huh? :)

Hmm, being stomped to death... :?

*Pondering, scratching head*

On second thought, maybe not. But all animals to hold a reasonable amount of hide are probably dangerous to some level.

...Hey, I got the perfect idea - a nude sloth!

What? What's wrong with that? :? If it were a regular sloth it would have fur...

Deer aren't too bad. Even moose aren't all that aggressive now.

Why does everyone assume you can rest on cots? Has anyone done this yet?

Are you telling me that there were never animals in the Swedish Area? I imagine if that is the case that is a mistake.

There are animals but they only provide fur or feathers, not hide.

If I'm correct, I believe the island that the Swedish is located on is pretty big so maybe your people just haven't discovered where these animals live yet.

Well that is possible. I got the impression Pirog's character has been around the whole island but mine is still going to check, just in case. And besides there are other things worth travelling than hides.

I tried to make the Swedish area more interesting by not making it all easy to find and to stimulate interesting interregional trade. Is it really true that areas are only interesting to play if all materials are easy to find?

I like it the way it is really, it's challenging and it'll take some time but I'm fine with it.

Lenseth>

I have been around the whole island. Unless missing something vital there are no animals giving hide and no coal or clay...

Jos Elkink>

The problem is that without hide it is hard to even maintain a stone age level of living. That it is impossible to make iron is stimulating in one way, but hide is needed for a lot of basic things...

As it is now people can't make anything.
Clothes from anything else than fur is impossible, tools are practically only made of bone etc.

From the perspective of player growth I see this as a problem...because unless you end up in interesting RP situations life on the Swedish island gets boring very fast.
The few tools from "the old ones" that are made of iron will also disappear over time...making it even harder to survive.
As it is now I find myself saying "you should make characters in the Englisg area too, because the Swedish one is kind of slow" when I'm recruiting and that doesn't feel good...

Without iron there would still be a huge need for interregional trade even if hide and other resources were available.

Really?

I have never seen any other animals than gorillas, hawks, koalas and toucans...or anyone having hide for that matter.
I'm only talking about the Sserperia-Ssonigo-Szef..whatever island though...I don't have any characters on the other one.
