Just as IRL you would wake him/her up...problem solved
Sure, someone can be a bit grumpy about being woken up when trying to rest, but that is only realistic.
I don't think this will be a problem. Sure, some might ask about what has been going on, but once sleep would be natural and people got used to not experiencing everything that happens people would accept it.
do think that with the slow characteristic of the game, and the inability of players to be on all the time, will make it very frustrating if you can't speak to someone who is sleeping. If your char needs to leave town, and you're not going to be able to get on for the next couple of days, but you can't leave because the char yours needs to talk to is sleeping........well, that's just an example of how it could become very frustrating.

I also thing, as I mentioned somewhere before, that if people can't see events while they sleep, they will all ask when they wake up "what's been going on?" I know I don't have time for my chars to constantly be answering that question, and the game would become more of a chore than a joy, whether mine answered or not. Of course, mine would want to know too, but because of how i feel, would not likely ask. And some of them will need to know.

This would be okay if there's a mechanism to wake people up, by another person. So if so, why not just allow whispering to sleeping people? Why ruin their sleep just to speak to them?

I disagree.

What about automatic sleeping
I've said this before about sleeping - I don't want it to make it more difficult for those who can only spend less time on Cantr, having to tell their characters to sleep when they could be playing...
It'd be good if you could set your character to automatically sleep after a project, so that you do not have to use time you could be playing...

We could have real Sleeping sickness

I have been thinking about that too. It didn't have to happen instantly though, otherwise you'd end up taking five minute naps after projects (if checking that character again would wake him/her up). If sleeping was automated then we could really have sleeping sickness, after a character hasn't been doing anything for a while, they would fall asleep. At first they could be spoken to (which would wake them up - the thing about people not being able to talk to sleepers, I guess it meant only that you could not sent private messages that couldn't be heard because the person was asleep) but after a long period of not being checked they would fall deeper asleep, then only pain would wake them up, finally nothing. And you could thus notice if they had been waking up or sleeping all the time. The reason the activation would be caused by checking the character (or talking/ entering buildings/ what ever) but not by working on projects is to prevent those lucky characters that don't have to work the traditional ways from falling asleep - because they are doing stuff, even if not projects stuff.

Yes, it would definately need a system to wake people up...and allowing whispers is of course an option too.

I agree with Netty on the annoyance with the people who don't want to waste their minutes reading what has happened when they log back on.

This idea is interesting, but also is fraught with consequences that truly change the game play dramatically (much more so than many other things that have changed)
I think that this sleeping thing should only be allowed on beds or cots or something - so that people who need medical help or just need more energy could go sleep somewhere to get faster healing. Other than that, it should not be needed.
Other than that, we spend most of the time already "sleeping", and in small towns, it would pretty much destroy things.

I don't think this would disrupt the activity much. Since the player can decide when to go to sleep or wake up they would probably have their characters wake up when they are logged in and then have them sleep when they for example go to work or sleep IRL.
Beds are much to expensive to make to have monopoly on such a function in my view...

I like the idea of sleeping - if there's tiredness - there should be an option to sleep
But I'm worried this is going to make Cantr much slower - it's already a slow game - that's one of the reasons I like it - and making it slower would be fine by me - but think about how long it takes to travel at the moment, or to get enough stone to build a house and then build it...
Then imagine how much longer it'd tkae if you had to send your character off to sleep duing it...

The great thing about Cantr is that you don't have to be 'active' to know what's going on. A player on the east coast of the united states could play with someone in Australia without worrying about time zones. If our characters fell asleep whenever we logged off, that wouldn't be possible.
How about a third option?
'Rest.'
While resting you couldn't engage in any activities, nor could you really move. Also, you wouldn't regain energy nearly as fast as someone who actually slept. Your character would, however, be lucid enough to see events and converse.

Perhaps while resting you couldn't talk... therefore, if you wanted to participate in a conversation, you'd have to... um... unrest?
Yes. Lots of unrest in Krif. It'll totally change the area.
I should mention that it's 2:42 in the morning where I am...

Here's a point to consider that's negative about being able to be woken up:
(Don't know if it's been brought up already, if so, I'm sorry.)
But, say you wanted to sleep and not wake up...(Because you the player are going out of town for a week.) So someone says something to you and wakes you up.....Then when you come back a week later you find your character hasn't been sleeping....just because another character spoke to it?
I don't like that at all!
What I would like, is just for the beds to be able to be used in a project where when you do it, your tiredness goes away. Leave the "what really goes on in the bed" up to the players. As in: *Yawns* Sorry ...I didn't hear you, I was sleeping. Or they still could say "Well lets have a chat while I'm resting..."
