1) Donate. This will always be number 1. Without support, Cantr can't keep running with optimal efficiency, server upgrades, and of course, the game at ALL (That bank balance hits $0, pow, bills can't be paid and Cantr dissapears. :'() - Commit a few dollars, it won't hurt your pockets. And if you don't have the money, get a job! That's what I'm doing. Once that income comes in, some will go out, straight to Jos's hands.
2) Conserve. Sure, you have 200 minutes to fiddle with, but you don't need to use them all logging in and out, waiting for your characters to light up white because someone posted. Every time you log in and out, more and more information is squeezed through the cable or phone line, attempting to get to you as fast as possible, but with everyone doing it, it just slows everything downnnnnnn...
3) Reuse. I believe the game is programmed to automatically refresh your pages with every click, so that you've never shown cached information. (Don't quote me on that, though.) So, how to reuse? A lot of people force their browser to check for new pages every time they click, which is counter-productive if Cantr does it already. This causes images to redownload to your computer every time you load up a new page, and is probably a leading cause of bandwidth conjestion. Turn off those automatic refreshers when playing Cantr, so that the images are loaded from your cache, while the information is not.
4) Localize. This is more a suggestion for Programming Department, that has to do with the above suggestion. Would it not be possible to slap all the images into a nifty Zip file, have the players download it and unzip it, to, say, C:\Cantr, then have the game search for the images there, instead of on the server? Less bandwidth usage there, loading all those images.
These are just three suggestions, and an added bonus forth suggestion, for you all to think about. I'm sure there are other ways to lighten the load on Cantr's bandwidth.
Remember, Cantr is here for everyone, not just you. Be nice
