City Gates
Ok, it's just a thought...
An area that has to pass through before a character can get into a city, to get permission etc. Also stop them thieves from ebing able to run off?
No idea how it would be programmed - a building, but which is the first place a character starts in after a journey to a town has been completed?

That is something I'd like to see aswell.
Something like this has been suggested before, a long time ago , but then it was about a citywall to protect a city if I remember correct.
The answer was, build all the buildings in 1 main building. That way you have that effect. It is true and you could have guards, guarding the door, which could function as the gate.
But you can't harvest anything or collect any resources within the buildings. Thats why nobody does it I guess.

That's all the more reason why it SHOULD be done. Way back in 'ye old time of Castles', a lot of the Castles didn't have room within their walls to have an area for farming, so the people would have to farm OUTSIDE of the secure building. So then, when people did attack...
"*DING DING DING* GET YOUR ASSES IN HERE! DON'T YOU SEE YOUR FRIENDS DYING?!"
But of course, since this is Cantr...

I was thinking about all this myself to after I saw the (stupid) movie King Arthur.
I guess in cantr this would be not a good system... I think all people just go outside, so the walls will have little use. Just like now, most buildings are only used to store some stuff in.
Also the guards would have to be very active. Otherwise people wont get in anymore
But I still would like to be in a city with this system to see if it really works or not.

It could work fine, but you would need trade between the city and the area outside. Which means the people in the city can't just hang around yanking carrots out of the ground. They would have to actually produce something to survive in there.
Or, in the cantr tradition, just get some idiots willing to stay outside and farm for you for free, and feed all the slackers inside. Communism works so well when you can find people with no ambition and no need for motivation.
I've been thinking of trying to build one, but the outside world really doesn't seem dangerous enough to justify it. If we could get some more bandits...maybe bands of bandits...that could make things interesting.

If and when Greenhouses were introducted to Cantr, a self-sufficient city inside a building would be plausable. And, would actually be FRICKEN' AMAZING to see, really.
However, the City would still need to trade with the outside world - to get basic supplies for their work (Except if they acquired the resources from outside, which then a Greenhouse wouldn't be needed, since theycould get the food while outside too.)

Well, yes, obviously the people inside have to work on industry, since they can't work on raw materials.
But have you ever noticed how hard it is to get people to do intelligent work? It seems as if doing anything other than collecting raw materials is outside the mental range of most 'city-dwelling' characters.
Look at any city. Ask yourself: how may of these 20+ people have I ever seen leaving, manufacturing anything, or spending time indoors (presumably working with machines)?
Not much of a proportion, I suspect.
Also, if the city is sited in a non-forest area, there aren't many places that have enough goods right there for much useful industry. If it is sited in a forest, they need food imports, unless they all live on meat. That might work...But in most places you would run out of animals.
