Hunting Packs depending on size

Postby Solfius » Tue Jun 22, 2004 8:00 pm

I think it would make it fairer if the number of times you could attack a pack of animals was dependant on it's size.

Something like a ratio of 1 attack per day to every 3 animals in that pack.

That would mean larger packs that can seriously hinder a town would be easier to manage.

I think this makes sense as we can hit people once per person, but animals we can only hunt once per pack, regardless of if there is one animal or one hundred!

A good idea, definitely. Personally, I'd prefer if animals were individualized (each cow gets its own entry in the animals list), because that would make so many other things possible. But this is probably easier to implement and would certainly help a lot.

Yeah, I'm for it as well. Damn wild boards! There was a château in the town, but still the whole town was dead when my character arrived. Good thing I haven't come across any of those buffalo. :P

I jhave a characture who has been going outside once a day, every day for 2 cantr years now to attack the bad animals... she is the only one there in the area and has only a hunting bow, do you know how wonderful it would be to implement this idea?

EVERY time she gets rid of all of one type of animal, more show up. she cant kill the wolves, bears, boars and cheetahs... and there are at least 2 of each in her forest... usually more.

in the immortal words of the buffalo priestess...

"the buffalo attack you becuse we attack them, nothing in life is free and they serve to remind us of that. The buffalo are great and powerful to make us strive to become as they are."

*Plays with the pinch on his chin* Very Interesting...... But they're still tough and hard to get rid of. At least they aren't that aggresive. Never seen anyone died from them yet..... YET.

1 - Hunting experience - the system for how you develop as a hunter would have to be changed, or everyone would suddenly be an expert.

2 - Targetting - Would you randomly determine which animal in the pack got hit, or would you just attack the same one until it died? If the plan is for the latter it's a bad idea. Anyone would be able to kill anything right away. if you do 40% damage with a weapon and thre attacks, you'd be guaranteed one kill. It wouldn't seem right anymore, since right now there's a high chance that you won't kill depending on the starting damage of the animal. You'd have to have individual animals in the memory linked to a single icon for each class of animal, the randomly select which ones get affected, or it would shift things by a rather large amount.

Don't have any actual solutions in mind, hope someone else will.

That is the way it is now. The animal you hunt is the weakest one of the herd, which is the way of nature.

Yes, but we're referring to multiple attacks on the same pack, by one character, in one day.

multiple attacks on the same pack by different characters hit the same target, surely this is less likely than the same character hitting the same target more than once in a day? Normally you would pursue your quarry until you have got them, not take pot shots at whatever presents itself.

I am all for this, animals should be present in smaller packs, a little like they are on the road, only in towns I think you should get a go at each pack...

Nice idea Solfius...
