I want a more revamped system with fatigue. So you cannot attack or even block that well the more tired you get. It'll allow an assassin to be able to strike one politician (but than he would have to deal with the guards unless...). Also would allow for gladiator fights and the such. Also add wounds that could affect the way you fight and defend. Also allow for people to sleep and rest to allow their endurance to get back up full but when one is sleeping and resting they are more vulnerable to attack. For wounds, one would have to actually tend to them in order to get back up in strength (bandages and medicines). After each hit allow the chance for someone to be knocked out or pass out for each 1 point of damage done to person (passing out from loss of blood). The lower the person's strength the better chance they might be knocked out. Someone who is knocked out can be dragged easily by two people. A person knocked out on a trail will end up back in the other town. Extra damage can be sustained from bleeding. Each succussful chance of damage against person can result in a wound that bleeds. After each turn if the wound is not tended to then it will lead to damage and perhaps even death if it isn't tended to. Bleeding can stop naturally on a percentage. Other people also can tend to wounds of other people especially if person is knocked out. Unattended wounds, even if bleeding stops, if not tended to could lead to infection that could cause damage as well sort of like bleeding would except it would be harder to stop. Infection can also heal naturally. A person who is knocked out has a chance of waking up every turn but it would depend on an equation between the person's strength and fatigue. The lower the both than the lower the chance that person wakes up but as long as someone tends to wounds and using medicines then the chance is raised that the person wakes up. This could lead to real doctors and nurses in game.
A combat system like this could also lead to more stragety and tactic among armies. Walking, and doing other physical work would also affect fatigue so now commanders would find easier ways to transport troops so not tire them out so much or calculate their attacks against their foe. Perhaps even using tactics as having reserves rather than throwing everything they have at the enemy.
This would also allow rebalance the system between large groups of people and small groups. Now a group of three to four people with crossbows and iron shields won't have much of a chance (but they would still have a chance) to take out a large group of people (lets say 30) with no weapons and shields. The 30 people would still sustain losses but it would allow more power behind numbers rather than small groups. A mob of 30 people could easily overrun three or four people no matter what weapons or shields they have.
Just my thoughts.
