I have to agree reading, there does seem a whole lot of those that stutter and a lot of mute characters that poke out their words in the sands or write across from notes, but i enjoy seeing a quirky character as it reveals they do have a depth there awaiting just to be revealed with the right interactions, or they wouldn't have tried a quirky voice or muteyness to start.
It's kind of taken over from characters once upon a time having strong accents. Like your Laird Loki's and the old time MacGregors. Guarenteed a year or so back there would be someone in most towns saying Aye as yes, and calling your girls a lass. Maybe the game goes through fads. I think the more people see quirky things with characters the more people give it a try themselves to see how people interact with them.
There was an epidemic not so long ago of *Sighs sadlys, arms wrapped around themselves looking out to the waters with solitary tear streaming down their faces*But i'm quite happy to see that most characters have pulled their socks up and got out of being the Oh so depressing ones.. Because personally they all came across to me as being "Marvin", the depressing Android from hitch hikers guide to the galaxy. My characters wanted to poke them with a very big stick till they actually fell face forwards into the water and got it over with.
