As for the whole parent thing, don't you guys think you're making it more complex than it needs be? If the two parents are of different origin, then it should randomly pick between the two. Not like "parents" really matter in-game. You might even want to consider have three random options, split between the two parents and the location of spawning. It'd make more sense that way, cantr-wse, that is
