I expanded the list of possible structures to hold the fractional distillation stack to building, hall, brick building, cottage, large log cabin, medium log cabin, stone extension, wood extension.

I liked the fact it was limited to the building and hall. Much as I hate fuel, and I still do make no mistake, I do quite like the advantage to stone buildings.
When you study old societies for whom stone buildings were a symbol of wealth, day in, day out... it makes you wonder at how there is so little differentiation in Cantr.
I am aware that the situation we have is the result of the Cantr has been developed rather than a detailed plan, so I can deal with it... just disappointed that an attempt to actually give stone some advantage has been defeated by players complaining because their buildings are wood and they feel hard done by.

Stone is easy for people in stone places and wood is easy for people in wood places and so it goes. What would be equally difficult for people in both places, in a fair sort of way, would be composite buildings. For example a stone-walled building with clay tiles on roof beams, and so on. These kinds of buildings would be upgrades to existing structures, no matter what their starting point. Eg, a mud hut would be just as easy to upgrade as a stone hall, but all your "basic" buildings would benefit from these upgrades.
I raised this in my Essay on Motivation, and it has been suggested in the forums both before and since. Now, had that been completed before RD implemented fuel, then Wichita wouldn't be running around tying himself in knots. Generally, because of the way Cantr is set up, I think composite upgraded buildings should be the route to high-tech, rather than favoring one local resource over another.

Stone ? Wood? Who cares, its the cobalt that was a pain to get. If someone has the resources to actually make one of these things, I am sure they are well to do and their building is just fine and dandy.

That is why we quickly rolled out that change to accomodate one of several precious metals rather than limiting it to just cobalt.
And don't get me started on buildings. I would love to make a ton of changes to make them more colorful, but Tircqi was a metropolis before I started playing the game. Might be a bit late to really make a difference to the people that are posting on this forum.

Sure make the change after I traveled to the other side of the island to gather some cobalt. Well atleast I can finish my soldering iron. Wouldn't it have been ironic if my motorbike started to need fuel on the cobalt run and ran out of gas on the way back.

I have seen them up and running on two islands. And an interesting economic situation with two effectively oil producing towns right next to each other.
With all of the other fuel options available, this particular region of Cantr could easily be equated to the UAE or Saudis.

Having seen this added to things like the cottage... any chance I can build it in a lighthouse? I understand that these things shouldn't be built in harbours, but I invested alot in my lighthouse and can't build anything in it to give it a use as a building...
