Hmm, well, I don't know about that thread, and even if I did know about it, my third point still stands - doing this publicly on the forum can make it clear who you are (or at least in which town you are) which a lot of players don't want to do, since they want to remain anonymous.

So I go back to the question of whether players can be messaged anonymously (eg I send a message to "the player that played JimBob" through the game, and the game delivers that message to JimBob's player without me finding out who JimBob was, and without JimBob finding out who I am - and he can reply to me similarly.

Instead of:
psymann: "Who was JimBob?"
psydkik: "It was me!"
psymann: *ooh, I was going to say something nice, but I hate psydkik* "Oh, ok, just wondering."
psydkik: "I bet that means you are JayJay who worked for me"
Everyone else: *oh, _that's_ who plays JayJay*

You have:
JayJay (played by psymann): "Sad to see JimBob die, I loved working for him all those years"
JimBob (played by psydkik): "You were my best employee! Shame that that heart attack got me... ;) But I had to kill some characters off because I have too much work on. Sorry."
JayJay (played by psymann): "No worries, JayJay will cope somehow I'm sure... :)"

Alternatively, or additionally, allow players to see events in their town for two days after they die. I know it's not "normal" to be able to see events after your death, but then it's not normal to be still alive after your death to wonder about it.

I dunno, but maybe this should be in suggestions? Though I think there's a thread for the seeing after thing.

As far as the thread that is there, you can choose to take the risk or not. Not all players of chars close to yours are gonna want to post that they're sad over your chars death. Even with an anonymous system, I think there are those that wouldn't want to.. and if you quit? You wouldn't get the messages.. I think too much ooc introduced within the game environment.

Maybe I'll split it into a separate thread and move it there later.

I'm pretty sure there was a suggestion for hanging around a couple of days after your death (provided you didn't cancel your whole account), but I think people were worried that people might gain some information that they could abuse OOC. I think people should just trust players. If the ghost couldn't be seen or heard, and could only stay in the location with the corpse (so if the corpse is moved out for burial, the ghost would follow and they could attend their own funeral), players would eventually get bored and let go. Or maybe ghosts would be deleted after the corpse has been buried properly. Anyway, it should also be possible to leave straight away, but there would be no turning back.

This would introduce OOC in which a character would say, 'shh dont talk about the plans, the ghost of the disceased still lingers'.. and crap like that.
Nakranoth's "evil" character says:
"Thief! That's terrible! *shakes his head* That would hurt people's feeling if I did that."

This would be good. Currently, the only way to do anything like this is to OOC the character, which is bad form. It would be particularly useful when explaining things to new players.

This would be cool! 8) I agree with SekoETC that the player/ghost should hang around the body, and not be able to move or do anything other than observe. This would give some meaning to funerals, wakes, etc. Although it should be optional so the funeral-goers don't know for sure whether there's another presence with them. RP would determine whether the charries believe in anything like ghosts.

I don't like the seeing things after you're dead. Too much opportunity for OOC things to effect IC events. I like the messenger to a character much more. Basically it would require an inbox set up in the main players page along with the character list, and you could send messages from one of your characters to protect yourself, to another player through his character. I don't know how complicated that would be, but it doesn't seem awful.

Dying sucks, but this is not needed and is a huge avenue for abuse.

Thats why we shouldn't be able to talk after death. The messenger provides an excellent opportunity to get to know the player attached to a character though. I like it a lot.
