But don't think the HR (or in Cantr, PerD) is not taking this very seriously at the moment! It is one of our top priorities and I have been hammering on it as well. The PerD and I slightly disagree on how to approach it, though ;) - but more importantly, the problem really is a lack of supply. The problem is that we have very few really strong MD applications, and very few that end up being really good. I'm not saying the current MD is not trying or doing nothing, but we lack this real engine of the department, and that's a big issue.

I am convinced that with better marketing, Cantr can be huge. But it requires that aspect. We need someone who is good in writing skills, who is strongly motivated to make Cantr big, who is innovative in how to approach potential public, who can motivate others to help, and who can avoid clinging to just one particular strategy. I have not seen that yet.

nitefyre wrote:On another level, the way I wish the Zine was more of, is from the editorial approach--being the OOC community's official press we're stuck between giving the official word and direct criticism.

I totally agree with both your ideas of what the Webzine is about, and it is one of the reasons I really liked your article this time. Well founded criticism, that does not turn into a rant, is definitely worth publishing, and shows we take things seriously.

I also like the style, actually, even though it sounds a bit tongue-in-cheek, it's also a way of showing that what we're doing is more 'real' than you might think. Sometimes I feel like I'm spending (wasting?) so much time on what is just a game and just online - but then when I compare our internal discussions with developments here at the university, or from stories in other organisations, it really is all strikingly similar to the Cantr organisation :). Same kinds of problems, same kinds of ideas, etc. In fact, I often feel an urge to lecture my boss about how we organised it better :) - but he'll probably not appreciate that ;) ...

For the Cantr Stats thing, did we ever have how many people were attacked a day at all?

That's visible on the website, though ... Under 'statistics -> time trends'.

6 more days until the submissions deadline closes. Please be prompt!

The ZINE will launch later on in December, per its usual extraordinaire.

Well, I'd consider applying for MD, and possibly maybe take up 'editoring', what with my inherent genius and training in psychological operations (think marketing while being shot at) buuuuut...I have this odd feeling that the PerD is out to get me >.>; If everyone would submit to a polygraph test I'll send in an application. =D

I'd apply for a department here but prob is they think I'd still act my immature self on the forums!

I was rejected ProgD because apparently, (keyword apparently) I had conflicting interests with my own game. Which is not true, I don't even develop the game in question anymore. :P

I can't remember why I was rejected Players D', think it was because of my behaviour on the forums! :D

Otherwise yeah, seriously CBF writing a FOURTH application.. after the PD one went to shit when it went in my junk email folder. :P

'ello, I thought I'd pop into this old thread seeing as how two things are happening. One, the MD is in desperate need of people willing to work. I honestly think I'm the last surviving member of the MD staff, and to be honest I suck at it o.- Second off, I'm now a member of our CD, in particular, the Webzine. We are looking for articles, any articles. If its an age old journal on a dead character, PLEASE send it to us. If the other Zine editors get sick of reading them, then you can send them to me personally. (I love history... let alone Cantr history)

My point is though, please apply to the MD, and please send the CD some of the forsaken articles no one likes to send :P you don't need to attach a name, you could ask a friend to post it for you, I don't mind, and I doubt 'Zine readers will either, but the WORK in the articles is greatly appreciated. Just remember, the four day rule is great, but if its even recent events, its a no-no.

So no talking about your recent conquest of some island, or how you just started a government. I'd love to know the happenings of all of Cantr, but others will use that knowledge idiotically and get us into lots of trouble. So, send us some of your coveted work. It can be from in the game itself, just as long as its older, and not of significance any more. Just think of something you'd expect to find in a history book :P

and, agian, MD needs people. I'm great at ideas, but horrible at implementation. So, come join us, and instead of mindlessly web surfing, come help Cantr grow so we can get more new members to play with us, to keep the game growing, much like a world would. (I know... cheesy line, but can you blame me? I'm lonely...) :P

Yes, ceselb, you could post stat ideas here, but we prefer to get ideas and articles by email at webzine@cantr.net. Or you could PM Drakulya or myself.

As I emailed you about, the webzine@cantr.net does not work unless you are registered to that mailinglist because of SPAM complaints, i.e. it will bounce. I would also recommend asking CJ or Jos about taking it off the bounce-list and furthermore, getting an e107 webzine account for the each of you (so as to get acclimated) . ;)

Ah, yes. Thanks, nitefyre. After some inquiry, I've been told that the webzine@cantr.net address will not work, and that that address should not be used for submissions. Sorry for giving out incorrect info!

Surly will be sending an IG message to clarify things, but suffice to say that you need to be logged in and go to the Contact Departments page. (If you're not logged in, you only get to send to Support. You need to be logged in). Then select Webzine from the drop-down box and email in the normal way.
It's been done in this way to avoid spam.

Alternatively, you can email or PM me via the buttons below.
