On the thought of everything rotting, keep in mind that some things in this world are biodegradable, while other things are not. So while yes Iron will slowly rust away, and sand will be lost to the winds, meats, hides, sinues, and even bones will outright fall away into nothingness within a year, no matter how big the pile was when you started. So, put a 5% a day on foodstuffs of 5kilos or more sitting on the ground outside, leave rot alone everywhere else. Like this, organics don't overstockpile, more permanant resources don't dissapear at a magical rate, and the balance of the game isn't upset badly.
Also, on a related note... mud would dry (to sand?) if left sitting around outside, and so would fresh dung.

Leave things as they are. (My char is presently trying to trade food for goods.)
Ahh yes, Travel! Let's make travel impossible too. With out travel, trade will fall apart, and exploration will be nonexistant. No Trade, no resource runs, only those that can afford big vehicles full of food with a couple people in them will be able to make resource runs. Only the rich will get richer, the rest of us will become the squalid farmers without a reason to live or advance. Throw us back to the dark ages that never reared thier heads in Cantr, Fuedal lords in Vans and Busses handing out longbows to those that take fealty oaths.
Don't make meat rot. Leave it all alone. There's nothing wrong with the way things are. People starve all the time, Hoarders hoard one thing or another, things are as they should be.
Reality was never my strong point.

I voted for faster rotting -- but I'd also want to vote for easier means of preparing food. Given a lack of fuel and spice or salt with which to preserve meat, it should always be possible to just dry the meat. The inability to easily preserve the meat we prepare is a part of why so much waits until someone is able to set up and run a big cooking project in so many places.
That's been my reaction, at least...

We have a machine called a drying rack that does just that.

And the drying rack requires STRING!
AKI HAS NEVER HAD STRING! NO ONE HAS EVER ADDED STRING TO AKI SINCE THE BOW CHANGE! THE K ISLE GOT COTTON BECAUSE OF THE BOW CHANGE, BURGEO HAS HEMP ON IT, BUT AKI STILL DOESN'T HAVE STRING!
And the people on staff don't seem to care any more, saying that the random people lucky enough to find Aki can bring trade, and how did we make bows before, or they're all just primitives, right? Wrong. We have a crossbow, just one, and about 6 longbows that haven't rotted to peices. One mouthy character who turned sleeper and let his bow disentergrate was turned on by a whole town and killed before anything else could be lost.
There are pleanty enough other ways to cook food on Aki, but there's no way at all to make bows. If this discussion is about a meat horde, it's just about Aki anyway. There's not a larger supply of raw meat in one spot anywhere else.

Why so upset? Borgeo and K isle is close enough for good trade and the swedish islands as I know better are as close to eachother as Aki, Burgero and K isle are to eachother. On the swedish islands there is coal, limestone and hematite spread, one on each island. Ni clay so charcoal a coal alternativce, and before you get iron gas is to no ude. Iron therefor has to come out of trade or long sea travel from island to island. I think that is a much bigger problem than not having cotton, hemp or silkcoocons on a single island when they are on an island close. The swedish limestone island doesn't even have wood, so it's impossible to leave that island without interisland trade. Isn't this how Cantr should work?
