I think decreasing by percentage would be best, since that way the programmers wouldn't have to worry about making different "classes" of meat.
Though if percentages were used I'd still prefer if there was a one or two day period before the rotting actually started, just because of the way Cantr is played. (Though, granted, you have to be awake to hunt, so it's not like you're suddenly going to wind up with meat in your inventory while offline...)

Bumping this up since in many places there's simply too much meat to ever be processed, and it doesn't get transported to low animal regions since the places that have piles of meat consider it worthless and don't think anyone else would want it either. So at least kick up the deterioration. It does have to be upped tremendously, but having a hundred kilos of raw meat is ridiculous, especially in a town with no dangerous animals where people only hunt for sports.
Can it deteriorate inside buildings? It should...

What's wrong with having Three million grams of raw meat laying around?
If things start rotting indoors, we'll have no place left to store any goods. Everything will be gather food, gather food, gather food. It'll make it harder to accomplish anything at all and just make the game a repetitive cycle, all rp turned to farmers.
Forget realisim, stick with cantreality, and leave my pile of meat alone!

Reality was never my strong point.

I don't find out how those giant piles of fresh meat you mention could justify a change in meat roting. Each site in Cantr world has its own "piles". There are piles of hide, piles of sand, piles of large bones, even piles of potatoes or carrots. If the deterioration of this "piles" should be directly proportional to its amounts, then not only meat might deteriorate faster, but also hide, carrots, and bones, etc.
Considering the idea of meat roting could be analysed from the RL context, I'm agree with changing the speed of its deterioration. Maybe 2 days outdoors. And this change should be implemented at the same time as Rusalka's fridges, to give an extra quote of atraction to game, and a way out for those who survive on hunting and meat cooking. Fridges will also give some more uses for rubber, steel and maybe water.
But, continuing the RL context, another resources should follow up meat's deterioration change. Fishes like cod or rainbow trout couldn't be eaten if more than a day had passed since it was gathered. The same for milk, pizza, coffee, etc.
I don't really know if Cantr world should follow up those RL parameters about food & resources deterioration so strictly, but I'm sure that if it's apllied to one resource, it must be change to all.

If you don't want your meat to rot, put it on a cooking project. Or better yet, KEEP CATTLE just like they did in real life. It's already possible through not hunting the animals that ain't a direct threat to the health of the population. Then when you actually need meat, you slaughter a cow and there's your meat.
Most of my characters don't hunt at all, the ones that do, do it to acquire meat for cooking (or other resources you get from them), or to neutralize a threat, or to vent off when they're pissed and don't have people as punching bags. But when there's 20 other people in town hunting animals just because it's turned into a habit, you get this pile of twenty kilos or even a hundred, that's bloody primitive. And some newspawn carries it in and says "maybe we should cook this?" and you don't bother to explain that it takes days to cook even a couple of kilos.
Like, in real life if you cook that Christmas ham or what the hell, it's gonna take one day tops. Those things weight several kilos. But then again Cantrians need to be eating so damn little because before you didn't have hand carts, and now that you do, you'll be entering them... you enter your cart, and do you have a bloody lock on it too? Well, Cantr was never realistic.

It's a choice, isn't it?
