I'm sure this has been said before, but... One of my chars just met a Pole? and got nowhere.
Another char was pointing at things and stating their name, but it would have helped greatly if his reply emotes had been translated. What my char wanted to do with him was point out to sea, or in a particular direction, rather than at something physical. The traditional meeting of people consists of them pointing at themselves and saying their names, but even this sort of thing is difficult. I can't see any general solution but these proposed emote menus should help.

You have to remember, that not everyone wants to start any international contact :) Yeah, I know, it is a bit strange for me, but I can easily imagine such chars. There is one old english char in one of big polish towns. He is quite active, but I never seen him, saying anything!

Well, actually I've change my mind a little bit about the emotes. Yesterday I was trying to say that we just don't need them, and it changes nothing. I usually agaist everything which is not really briliant, ideas which wouldn't give anything special. Anyway, I forgot that, not everyone speaks english, and it will not always be possible for everyone to translate their actions. So for language purposes I say 'yes' to emotes.

Ok, but what other emotes you guys wish to have? i would like to have a list of possible emotes to be adjusted for international communication.

Emotes are easy to look up in traslators, even if it literally comes across as cavemanish *to point at firepit*.

I learned some emoting with a non-English character with some creative posting and a willing teacher once. I was throwing out the smiley face :-) repeatedly. She eventually posted something like ":-) Smile. *points at her smile* Understand?" She also pointed at me, so I could pick out the verb for "to point". So, picking words here and there, I eventually put together how to effectively say *points at*

Once I had learned *points at X* then we were translating vocabulary like nobody's businsess.

I have an idea. We can create an international directory of the most popular emotes used in the game. We could add it to the wiki for example. So we would have *smiles* *points at...* and all other stuff which generally describes body language, in every Cantr dialect. That is the easiest way to sort out communication problems.

What do you think?

Excellent - and no programming involved.
They should be kept as simple gestures (no phrases etc) but other than that I think there is no problem at all with that Rusalka

I concur. Good thinking, Rusalka.

I might throw up a few on the wiki from time to time as I am working on my language studies at nights. :)
