yea, I don't think anyone rp's in WoW or runescape, not that I've seen anyway.

People that RP in WoW scare me; there's no POINT to it because the whole world's so scripted.

1. Bromwell High - yip, seen it... heh....
2. Cantr 3-d: Sure... and while we're at it, I'd also like my chars to be able to build everything I can imagine, at no cost in resources, in no more time than 5 seconds.
I guess we're all out of luck.
That time it takes to build things, by the way, is another one of the charms to Cantr that makes going 3-d into one of those "let's deny we ever had part in this"-ideas.
As it is now, with just text, you can rp taking a break from a long project to have fun.
In 3d you'd have to actually stop that project to do something else.
And in text, it's actually funny to take such "breaks" and type something.
In 3d you'd get bored with watching your char keep on hammering away at a pile of hematite for 15 days, or at a boat that takes 12 days to make.
So, people get bored with a 3d cantr and end up forgetting about it.
Characters end up going into collective bouts of starvation and heart-attacks, due to the "sleeping sickness" going around like it owns the world of Cantr.
Then, as already mentioned, there's the "behind the scenes"-part of it all.
The people working on that are themselves players who give up their own time to work on it.
Text-based is fairly easy (relatively speaking) to maintain.
A small glitch in a text-based game engine can take days to find and fix.
Now imagine having to peer through all the code that would make it 3d....
"We're sorry, but due to someone missing a spelling-error Cantr will now be offline for the next 85 days".... yeah, that'd be real popular among players.
Add to that the server load that would happen, for just one town....
And I'm talking of a small town, not a large one.
Then, the time limit... how charming would it be to see someone coming at you with a weapon, and you wanting to use healingfood... but alass, you're one second too late and the time limit nails you.
The next day you might not be able to make it back to the game in time... and when you get back at last, you see that same hostile char giving you one final blow.
3d would be nice eyecandy if:
- there would be loads of money and excellent equipment (servers).
- there was no time-limit.
- everyone was on at the same time, dealing with eachother in real-time.
(as it is now, it can take days to get a response from another player)
- you want to give up the fun of using your imagination.
- someone describes how he hops off a bike full of energy, while the graphics show him just sliding off... and you don't get annoyed by this.
- you don't get annoyed by watching vehicles that are stocked with smokers, stone tables, spits, small firepits and such...

Meh, the list would go on and on.
Let's just say this:
You want a 3-d Cantr? Try suggesting the people of those 3-d avatar chat sites that they should incorporate a game like Cantr.
I'm sure once they stop laughing that they'll get right to work for ya.

* Edit:
91% no, I guess that says it all.
Those who play Cantr, do so because of it's charms.
Those who want 3d play completely different games.
And I don't want to come off as being hostile here, on the contrary, but if you type stuff like "sux", "h8", "gr8", "would b beta" (or another variation: "wud b beta", then maybe coming to a text-game isn't such a great idea, unless you're capable of keeping that out of the game, in which case, go for it.
Cantr isn't WoW, Cantr isn't Moove, and Cantr certainly isn't msn...
If I want hamburgers, I go to McDonalds... if I want nasi, I go to a Chinese restaurant.
I don't go to McDonalds and then try to turn them into a Chinese restaurant.

On a lighter note:
There was a thread somewhere about a game that came close to a 3-d version of Cantr... Was it "Children of the Nile" or something like that?
I'm too lazy to search right now, so maybe someone else can find it back.

On an even lighter note:
Bite me

Well said... If I wanted a 3-d game... I would play one... remember what hooked you on cantr in the first place, and don't try to take something so original and turn it into something common place... Cantr should always remain text based... with all the other things being implimented.. i.e. skills.. it limits how you want to RP your charri, although, they can still be RP'd very well..(the adding of skills was the hardest on the established charris, the older ones who had already made a life.. newspawns... not so hard) Turning it into 3-D would totally ruin the whole Cantr experience... I could honestly say, I would no longer play... I play cantr because of the reading and writing.. the RP .. the point of cantr... because it lacks graphics....

Indeed.
Personally I really don't mind all the stuff like experience and such, one way or the other, but yes... it's the fact that players can be as descriptive as they want.
Seeing someone type out how they do something, despite the fact that it isn't an implemented feature in the game mechanics, as the example with the bike goes, is half the fun.
It allows everyone to be individual.
It's that bit of magic which makes chars fall for eachother, and such.
Replace it with graphics and you'll end up with a bunch of 13-year olds who all play some avatar because it's a hot chick (to use an example), and another bunch who will not explore the world of Cantr because in their spawnplace there's this "hot chick"-avatar.
And the other stuff I mentioned... yeah...

dang. I was going to post this question.

I think that this is a fairly plausable idea. Some of your arguments are

Cantr II opens the imagination and if it was 3d, that would be lost.
Cantr II is easyer for slow comp people.

Answer for these two: make it so that you don't HAVE to run the 3d. Make it so that you can login, and then, next to the activity thing in the caracter page, put a link called look. This will let you look at the scenery.

it would make people who are 13 years old come

Well.... Its to late for that now isn't it? this is what i would call, a compleat defence. It is a thery that cannot be proved, but it cannot be disproved and thus it discurages people frome doing something.

and thus I say NO 3D!!! I don't want idiotic bad spelling silly 13 year olds on the forums!!!(It's like the imagration debait, isn't it?)

The problem with other games is that there scripted. the problem with cantr is that it dosen't have massive apeal to people. the problem with getting massive apeal is the apeal would be to stupid 13 year olds. the problem with that is that... it's to late for that. the only problem with this is time, money, experiance, and the fear of ruining cantr forever.

so now I say, NEVER!!! and then I say... but what if it turnes out right? what if we are able to program cantr corectly so that it is 3d and that it has no side affects of stupid newspawns? wouldn't that be the perfict cantr? a cantr where you can see stuff? it is still a slow paced game, but you can sit and look at the sunset forever, sitting beside your lover that you got by R.Ping love so greatly that they had no other thing to do but R.P love back.

but... its a lost caus. i say, if we ever do a 3d cantr, it will have to be a differen't cantr. Cantr III D. and then we realeas it to the populous and then we see if it is profitable(in a manner of speaking(profitable with fun))

That’s a shame. It’s really a grand show. Half the writers are Canadian, and it reminds me of the highschool I used to go to, except that me school was depressingly unfunny, whereas the show is great. It’s really very good show.

I've never seen it. It sounds awful. What is it?

If you ask me, the idea is rediculous of 3-D. That guy has perhaps not played long enough to see that. But it's out of the question.

I was 13 when I first came on the forum, but I spell good, and I don't think I'm very idiotic, and I'm 14 now, so does that make me ok?

I'm not sure. Maybe it was "Children of the Nile" but when I read it I had to think about "A Tale in the Desert" A 3D MMORPG that is not focussed on the Hack 'n Slash gameplay but on the ingame economy and individual goals.
