Count your lucky stars you're untainted. I've only seen the adverts and heard the hype, but still I feel my intelligence has decreased.

The most frustrating thing is that everyone IS talking about it everywhere - I am disgusted with my work colleagues its beneath them... This year it is mostly media driven though...

The source of the idea of 'Big Brother' in literature, though not by name, is seen earlier on in Yevgeny Zamatin's "We". If you've read the work in translation, it becomes pretty clear where ol' George borrowed heavily from. ;)

Back on topic:

My rant of the day is against people who think it's fun to have their established chars act suddenly start acting completely out of character and screw up the game for other people just because they're 'bored'.

This goes out to the suicidal newspawns and non-newspawns, the mild-mannered farmers who up and decide it would be neat to try and get away with murder or lie to get someone else's char in trouble for the fun of it.

I hate the liars especially....it's just too easy to get away with lying in Cantr, since anybody to be slimy and abuse the fact that everything's in text. It's never actually obvious someone is lying unless the player drops deliberate hints about suspicious body language or tone of voice or whatever, none of which is going to happen unless they want to get caught.

And yes, deadboy, I'm looking at you.

Think of it as a mid life crisis... and then make sure it isn't by killing them

I've noticed that I have some really old, useless characters. I need to start killing them off...get into some new towns or something. Right now, I just hate that they've all settled into these mostly solitary existances as wealthy old people , or general workers.

Wow, I just realized. I don't have any characters at all. Nothing is said on my daily reports on the days before they all die. And now that they are all dead, I'm not recieving any new reports, and that's easy to understand, of course. But now I'm not sure what character to make or how many characters to make or if I should not make any new characters at all. And I think I could only make up to ten characters; I had five who just sat on the streets for the rest of their lives. And I have to... Nah, I done for the day.

I hate it when I forget that I'm not supposed to go into work until 5:30pm and I go in at 2pm... even though I can just call it extra hours and work anyway.

Nah, don't blast away the combat skills. I like them. If you really want to improve combat, find a way to effectively nerf the "drag into a building" being the most effective combat technique.

Perhaps a button that could be clicked for a character that puts them "on the defensive." When on the defensive, you can't be dragged. But let's say on the defensive only lasts for a certain period of time and then has a refractory period where it cannot again be used.

Then we might get to see warfare and combat conducted more "honourably."

Did I here someone ranting about the skills system?

I have always been opposed to the skills system due to the way it restricts the game. The appeal of this game to me was that you could actually play whatever character you wanted. But lets consider my chars fighting abilities: I have 7 awkward, 1 expert, 4 novice, 1 efficient and 2 skilled. Now, can I really play whatever I want to? No... I am forced to play non-aggressive characters, as most of mine can't damage a newspawn who picks up a bone shield with their crossbow... now, let's consider the improvement of skills. Only twice have my chars skill level gone up (a fair number have gone done... one of my skilled fighters used to be expert, but considering he skillfully does 29 damage to an unarmed man with a battleaxe... :x ), so effectively what you play is dictated by the random skills at spawning.

I cannot play whatever I want to any longer... that phrase should be removed from the main page. Quite simply, if we have skills we have to have a levelling system... and you will have people just trying to "level up" their chars. I don't like that idea, but if we are going to have skills that is way it must be. Especially now with the locking of young char slots...

"Any role you can imagine you can play in this game and the challenge is in playing it consistently, and in achieving the goals you set for your characters individually." should become:
"Any role you can imagine you can play in this game, the challenge is in fluking a character with a skill set to back that up; and if you don't like the skill set forced on you, tough luck - because you won't be allowed another character until you're done with that one"

Quite frankly, I thought the days of "You can have a dessert, once you've eaten your vegetables" had gone when I left home... unfortunately, it seems that Cantr can do the same for me.

there is violence allowed (and to some extent encouraged, although there are limitations on it) - but none of those three things is the end goal of the game.

PLEASE NOTE: If your idea of a good time is to leave a trail of corpses behind you, Cantr II is not the game for you.

Need I say more!
