Maybe, but that doesn't make it a good thing.

That's not an out of character reason to kill someone.

His name was directly derived from a movie, along with his personality.

Can we get a list of all the non-weapons you can bash people with? I was pretty surprised when I heard the small wooden shaft could be used as a weapon, myself.

Objects not specifically classed as weapons which can be used in combat are as follows

Code: Select all

Edit : See 3 posts below

The only thing missing is bare fist which effectively is rated at hit:4

This is correct, Chris.

One log is made using a machine (which is an 'hasobject' machine by the way) and another is used using tools.

Please note that the weapon values are subject to change at any time. There has been some discussion recently about changing some of the weapon values to better match their construction costs. Towards this end, only one change has been made so far, which was moving the compound bow from 42 to 39 (and probably lower in the future).

After actually going through the full thread, I forgot who made the point (or even how it was formulated) that made me want to post this, but... here goes.
I'm not sure of how the mechanics behind it work, but one of my chars has been quite impressive with a sledgehammer, I know it involves her skill, fatigue and health and stuff, but still, there has to be more to it that I as a player don't see (and don't care to see).
All I know is, she's having a great time whacking desert tortoises.
She also has an apache throwingstar and other weapons, which seem to be better for other targets (other animals) but usually don't even put a dent in a tortoise, but the sledgehammer, to her and those watching her, has proven to be a real tortoise-killer.
Then there's one other char of mine with a sledgehammer, a greater skill at hunting, and in comparable health/fatigue, who also has some of the same animals available to hunt... yet he has more luck offing tortoises with his bone spear, and considers the sledgehammer a lousy weapon in general to hunt with.

The point is that to me (as a player) comparing those two chars with their sledgehammer and other weapons, makes me think that while there is a weapon which probably has the highest averages, there might be cases where a weapon with a lower rating actually is more powerful to it's wielder.
Of course, that point would go overboard if some char manages to make everything that can be used as a weapon, and finds out that the highest-rated weapon actually does so much damage that even with the other factors and mechanics involved, none of the other weapons come close.

That has no bearing on whether he got killed or not; it's his actions that got him killed. Nothing OOC about that. I'm sure he could've been named Cuddly Pincushion and gotten the same reaction for the same actions and personality.

As for the weapons and stuff... thanks for the info :) and thanks Sho, for all your hard wiki-work.

Which I should add, I disagree with.

That is not possible as far as I know.

rklenseth:
I don't know which ranges the averages fall in according to the game mechanics, but there have been cases where one of the chars hit a desert tortoise for 8, while the other hit 12 or 13, and both at 0 fatigue, in good health (1%damage at the most) and with the sledgehammers being in great shape.
And for a little while, I managed to get the tortoises in one place to myself to make sure that my uncanny abillity of whacking tortoises to pulp wasn't just because the tortoises would already be damaged from other people hitting them.
The char hitting about 8 was in the Pok Southern Mountains area at that time, the one hitting 12 was in Seatown Hills at that time.
Recently I saw something through another char who found her way to Seatown Hills not that long ago, where two people spoke of a difference in weapons against specific animals, because someone mentioned the throwingstar wasn't able to tickle a tortoise while it cut down other animals with ease.
Which seemed kinda like a discussion my char with the sledgehammer had some time before that.
