Yea, I've heard lots of good things with those and claymores... and I personally like crossbows... Longswords are nice too...

Yea, my charrie hits in the high 50s with his sabre :D

I had a charrie who hit in the 60s with a crossbow.

I agree with rlk, but I also think it should be a personal choice. If you don't wanna know, don't ask.
I toiled for days trying to figure out how eggs were cooked. (yes I could have looked in the wiki) but my charie doesn't have a wiki :P
I know myself enough to know that if I find out all the answers, I might change my charrie. I don't wanna do that.
With that said, the best weapon that I've come accross is the diamond encrusted sabre.

The Wiki list is hopelessly wrong the further down it goes. Best weapons are crossbow, battle axe and claymore, in roughly that order but not so as makes much difference. The last I looked, a bastard sword was very inferior to a compound bow, a longsword, a broadsword or even a sabre, so I don't understand why it is so highly rated on the Wiki. By the standards of my high-tech charries, a sabre is a bit of a toothpick really.

Your best weapons are the three I mentioned, and so your charries can obtain for themselves whatever they consider most fits their personality. The "best bang for the buck", however, is the compound bow. When last I looked, only a few points separated it from a crossbow, at least when hunting.

Apart from this, however, you are surely aware that the best weapon in Cantr is a lock and key, and the second-best weapon is a crowbar? All other weapons pale to complete insignificance beside these, since there is seldom combat in the game--newspawns in Zhift Forest excluded.

By the way, had the skills system been implemented with anything even faintly like rational planning, we could be having a lot more fun with weapons right now. Your fletching-tailoring types with high agility would be better with bows, you robust miners better with battleaxes and maybe your weaker nerdy types quite devilish with rapiers and the like.

For me, it is a real tragedy that the skills system in this game can't even manage to meet the now almost 10 year-old Ultima Online when it first came out.

I'm guessing that was a joke...but what exactly is the problem with the character, who knows how to make every one of these weapons, having an understanding of how powerful they are that has some basis in knowing about the weapons in-game behavior rather than guessing from out of game knowledge?

It's the same thing as the abandoned theory that you ought to have to build a glass oven to know that you use it to make glass, and a kiln to realize that there is no pottery in-game. The characters live in the world that contains these items, and know from spawning how to manufacture and use them. It makes very little sense for them to have no idea what the function of a particular item is until they try it.

Though I admit, seeing all these numbers disturbs me a bit...

Haven't you ever heard of wrestling?

2943-2 You see Billy smash a chair over Bob's head.
2943-1 You see Bob say, "Shutup Billy."
