The Wiki list is hopelessly wrong the further down it goes. Best weapons are crossbow, battle axe and claymore, in roughly that order but not so as makes much difference. The last I looked, a bastard sword was very inferior to a compound bow, a longsword, a broadsword or even a sabre, so I don't understand why it is so highly rated on the Wiki. By the standards of my high-tech charries, a sabre is a bit of a toothpick really.
Your best weapons are the three I mentioned, and so your charries can obtain for themselves whatever they consider most fits their personality. The "best bang for the buck", however, is the compound bow. When last I looked, only a few points separated it from a crossbow, at least when hunting.
Apart from this, however, you are surely aware that the best weapon in Cantr is a lock and key, and the second-best weapon is a crowbar? All other weapons pale to complete insignificance beside these, since there is seldom combat in the game--newspawns in Zhift Forest excluded.
By the way, had the skills system been implemented with anything even faintly like rational planning, we could be having a lot more fun with weapons right now. Your fletching-tailoring types with high agility would be better with bows, you robust miners better with battleaxes and maybe your weaker nerdy types quite devilish with rapiers and the like.
For me, it is a real tragedy that the skills system in this game can't even manage to meet the now almost 10 year-old Ultima Online when it
first came out.
