Which brings the discussion onto...seeds/plants changing dependant on area, the desert or mountains wouldn't neccesarily be the best place for some things but with enough hard work could scrape together a small patch of carrots or something. I liked that salt/fresh water idea...could provide a new way to get salt!

I've seen water recently, I think you make mud with it? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I want a garden though, I want .... sorry I've just been playing.... one of my characters wants to grow things and tend things and have fresh flowers and vegetables, she wants a lockable garden!!!!!
We could build gardens like we build houses, and have the ability to put locks on them, like greenhouses.... er... greenhouses... glass...
Can we have gardens and/or greenhouses please? *jumps up and down like a big kid*

I would really like to implement this idea.
There are a few complications that have been considered, but the idea has at least been put up for discussion.
Basically I envision gardens as a plot of land dedicated for farming (set up as a machine in Cantr technical terms). It would reuquire a bit of stone or wood for the fence around it, and then each growing project would require a little bit of the item you wish to grow as the "seeds". (All Cantr plants grow like RL potatoes!
) We could probably add dung as fertilizer to make it grow.
One complication is that gardening shouldn't be reasonable in the mountains, swamps, deserts, etc. Only grasslands, hills, plains, maybe forests should be conducive to gardening. Otherwise we run the risk of throwing the trade balance off horribly if every location can grow any vegetable, flower, herb, etc.

Nah... lets just continue this topic..
NO!!!!!Doug R. NO!!! HORIBLE IDEA!!!!!
Have that, in the mountains, you get less food frome one garden than usual. Like, only 100g a day unstead of 300g a day. As for swamps, 120g a day... graslands...1000g a day.
You get my point.
AND ALSO, you wouldn't need carrots every time you do carrot farming on a garden. You just "Plant" The seeds in the garden when you make it, and, Every, like, year or so, you have to plant more seeds.
ITS PERFICT!!! ACEPT IT ALREDY, COMON!!!!

gardening in mountains hmm ya that would be odd but a greenhouse on the otherhand, seriously if a person really wanted it that bad it would need a lot of work the steel framing and the window glass needed, and the seeds you would need to bring. although you would probably only allow one kind of plant in a greenhouse to make it simple for how much it produces but we could also get greenhuse extensions to plant other things as well without building an entirely new greenhouse.
of course there should be a reasonable max for how much food can be in the greenhouse and it stops growing until some is harvested but it should be low enough that nobody sees any sense in building a bunch of harvesters inside lol
