Prevent buildings becoming too full to enter

Postby wulf » Mon Nov 07, 2005 11:15 am

An ongoing problem with buildings, IMHO, is that it's all to easy to accidentally get them so full that you then can't enter them to empty things out. I presume this is a consequence of being able to "drag" (push?) something into a building without actually enter it yourself.

Could a check be introduced so that you can't drag someone or something into a location unless it has enough capacity for your character as well as what is being dragged?

Not just "your character", all the character participating the dragging project on the moment it finishes.

Might that create problems if several people are trying to bundle another character into a building? I was mainly thinking of getting in the situation where you're unable to go and empty a building.

However, the total weight of all dragging characters could be used as long as there was a clear indication preventing your joining a dragging project if your weight would prevent it being completed.

Another problem though that would need a workaround is when a building is nearly full, and the one character allowed in by weight dies, even with an unlocked building, you'd need to get ProgD.

And why is it that even if you can drag a living person on your own, if they die then even if you could get inside, you couldn't do jack shit about it since you need at least two people to drag a corpse?

Do corpses weigh the same as people? Perhaps their weight could be reduced allowing easier dragging around - either an immediate reduction or a more realistic gradual reduction as they decompose to a few hundred grams of small and large bones.

Looky!

Well i always thought that the players should have a way to drag stuff outside of a building to unclog it. Thus removing the need of staff intervention.

They do degrade in weight but the deterioration is so slow that you'd have to wait several game years before entry was possible even if there were a lot of bodies inside.

I believe Peanut's previous suggestion (see post above) is the best in game solution - Though I will say it is an issue which only requires ProgD support maybe once a week at most consequently it is of lower priority than other issues

I still believe no staff intervention is best

On a similar line, how about being able to estimate the weight of bodies or, indeed, how much room is left inside a building? Since Cantrians can glean the weight of resources at a glance, how about extending that power to estimating the weight of people, alive and dead?
