I have a character sailing around Burgeo, mapping the coast. She now has no idea the name of the locations that she sees. Good news is, she has 10 kilos of salted meat, so she can sail around, and start making things up.

Don't ask me which, I didn't note them down, as it didn't seem to matter too much before we were forced to rely on those directions, and I haven't been everywhere, after all. I must have only noticed a small percentage of such mistakes I CAN say, however that there are two roads heading out of Lad Forest North in a South Easterly direction, which might be right in both cases for all I know, but c'mon. that's making things far too difficult isn't it?
In that Lad Forest North case you are right there are two roads leaving in in a south easterly direction - They are both within a few degrees of each other heading to different locations - remember the directions are covering 1/16th of a whole circle. This will pose problems but the order of display is always the same - directions should be take the first south eastern route etc... I'd be happy to check any stated directions you think are wrong .
julie2 wrote:B)If you're in a vehicle you can't see which direction you're travelling in, and neither can others see which direction you're travellin in. Also, I'm not sure you can see people outside pointing from a vehicle, so if you stop and ask for directions , you'll be none the wiser (Leave the vehicle? What if it lacks a lock? And what if you're trasporting a captive?). In fact there are loads of things you can't see from a vehicle, and now suddenly it all matters even more than it used to.
1) Yes thats true - you can't see the direction you are travelling when in a land vehicle - this should be fixed soon
2) People inside and outside vehicles can see each other when either point at roads
3) People on vehicles can see the road directions/paths when in a town location

Thanks, but like I said I never made a note of them, unfortunately, and my chars have only been down a fraction of the roads betwen them. What concerns me is that we'll be relying on compass-bearings (and a graphical map) to tell roads apart now. A lot of fatal mistakes are going to made if the given bearings are wrong. I know it's asking a lot, but couldn't the relevant Depatment check them all for errors? Nobody else is in any position to do so.

Thank Jos and hs angels for that!

Thanks for the info. I guessed not, because you can't see the people outside your vehicle doing anything else e.g walking in and out of bulidings, or entering and leaving town- highly inconvenient if you're pursuing somebody. Is this going to be fixed as well?

Alright, just thought I would throw it out there in case.
I am also seeing the name being dropped like this.
1327-4: You see <name edited out> entering Seatown Metalworks, coming from the central area of .
I had Seatown Forest named. Is this just a temporary bug, like with the food change, or could this be something important?

So here's a new question on maps and location names.
Do they alphabetise? The way buildings and things do?
If the exits are in the same order as they were, then they can still be used as old references for those lands that don't have a great number of land vehicles (or any land vehicles at all) to poke around for old resources while they make updated maps with direction references.
If they alphabetise when we name them ... It's going to be very tricky to keep track of what's where ... and where to go. Especially if the alphabetising flows into the North North West, or South, or whatever directions indicate the different directions there are, because that would meant they exits are ALREADY scrambled by the time we get there.
Which is it?

I really do not understand the problem... all the old maps are still relevant. If you have a map, the location name wipe doesn't matter at all. Even without road names... and they should be wiped as well, otherwise it undermines the whole point of dynamic naming.Oasis wrote:Then all maps would become useless. I smell mass chaos brewing.
Just put some effort into it people, and think about it... it really is quite simple...
*thanks the Lord for lazy mapmakers*

I recently landed where a colony of sorts had started, but they actually have a building built, unlike the others there. There was a travellers log that included one claiming to have circumnavigated the island, which I assume is you.
No matter. I haven't seen your map, so it's just a matter of who gets published first
