Interface enhancements

Postby EchoMan » Fri Sep 30, 2005 8:37 am

I checked the list but couldn't find anything like this suggested before.

 I suggest that from every page you should be able to klick a button taking you back to the main (Events?) page of the current character. This is to avoid having to use the browsers back button and/or the games back-button several times. This is especially useful when you have clicked your way down in, for example, activities and info on them.

 Have the back button '<' in top of lists as well as in the bottom (scrolling is a nuicance, especially manufacture-tools)

 Have the player/account (?) buttons available in the bottom of every page. (when quickly checking the status of my characters I'd like an easy way to get to the character list without having to hit the back button several times before the account menu is available)

 Make sure that when you klick on a player name in the activity page (and other pages?), you're taken to the player interaction page of that player, not the People-page with a list of all players.

That's all I can come to think of right now. All of the above would ofcourse be solved automagically if the site had a frame-based menu system. :D

This is a standard situation where the implementation rule comes into effect.
For every problem you solve, you create 10 more.

This can't be that hard to do, they did it with the hunting form, and this is not significatnly different.

So, never fix anything?

Seriously, I have been working professionelly and on my spare time in development of applications and websites for the past ten years. I'd say a thing like this doesn't necessarily introduce a lot of new bugs. Maybe that depends on how structured your development is. :)

Cantr at the moment can be run by the lowest end of computers. I think any step away from this would be frowned upon.

There is active development on the game interface at the moment , the Hunting page was one of the first changes.

The next stage of development is looking at the events page in particular.
Whilst I'm sure the porgrammer responsible has seen this topic I'll draw their attention to it.

None of my suggestions imply any performance issues whatsoever.

Having frames would keep many of our players from playing. You'd be suprised how many people play this game with horrible computers.

I seem to remember suggesting it and having it shot down in the past.

Great idea, but does this mean Cantr will be perpetually tied to the whatever runs on an 8086 with a 2800 baud modem? Perhaps we could run a survey and see what the "lowest end of computers" are, and what they can therefore handle. I'd hate to see Cantr handicapped by the need to run on those orange-and-black monitors I remember from yesteryear. :P

If that data was needed, I'm sure it could be obtained easier and more accurately than with a poll.

I sometimes (not by any means often, but still) used Lynx to play Cantr. It doesn't like frames much. I'm probably the only one, so it's hardly an argument with any weight to it, but . . . eh, whatever.

I've used Cantr on Lynx before too Sho - the fact that it's workable on Lynx can be nothing but a good thing.

Frames... ergh...

All the other suggestion from the first post are great though
