Fuel Poll
There's a thread in the accepted suggestions stating that soon motorized vehicles will need fuel to run. I think this will cripple the few vehicles that are running.

Now, I am currently anti this change... but the problem is, I can see the reasoning for implementing fuel. However... Cantr does not need to be 100% realistic... and I would say cannot be.

I think adding fuel would create more trouble than building a car is worth.. The enjoyment of Cantr decreases the harder things seem to get.. alot of changes are just... bothersome but workable. I think the addition of fuel will stop the production of the car (and motorbikes) for the most part. Change is always good.. but, as I said... some things are just not needed...

Anyways, whichever side on the controversy you're on, I encourage you to write an article about it to webzine@cantr.net to help illustrate your viewpoint.

From the perspective of the player of a char that owns a car company, I'd like to thinkfuel will hurt some. But if fuel can make his vehicles better than they are now, I might like it.

What kinds of fuel are allowed? It would be very difficult on some communities if propane was required.... especially areas with no known source of gas who have already built motor vehicles.
I think that this change should could do with a wait. Not enough of cantr is motorized yet, and doing this will throw an even greater wrench into the works.

Although Jos has said that he want to see more cars, he also has expressed his interest in adding fuel.

Jos Elkink wrote:And as long petrol will be something that creates some regions to become very rich and others less so. I don't think it's much of a problem is some areas can develop an interesting vehicle industry while others can't - over time, the latter are bound to trade with the former.
We are currently trying to design fuel so that is will not cripple the use of motorized vehicles. There is still much more talking that needs to be done before any changes can be implemented.

Right now, we are looking at making fuel from oil, gas, and vegetables. The fuel derived from oil would be the most effecient, followed by gas, and then the ethanol fuel (from the vegetables).

GAHHH!!!!
So, I'm going to have to haul around four kilos of corn to process down into ethanol to drive my dirt bike from town to town? And don't most of the veggie to fuel methods need alcohol?

I can see where Jos is coming from, but based on my game experience, I don't think that needing fuel for cars would encourage trade as much as it would encourage bicycle production.
EDIT: I think tire replacement would be a better first step for creating a maintenance economy then fuel would.

If fuel was truly that widely possible, with biofuels, then it wouldn't be so bad.
At the moment, though, I'm certainly against it. Motorised vehicles are so few and far between, because they're so costly and most require developed roads.
Once motorised vehicles are more common (in the distant future...) then fuel would be something that should be considered.
For now, though, I think we should be looking at ways of making vehicles less difficult to build and use, rather than complicating things.
