Steel hammer?

Postby Yo_Yo » Sat May 07, 2005 2:29 am

Wouldn't it make more sense to make that require iron instead of steel? I know no one has ever had a problem with this... but I seriously can't bring myself to donate 50 steel for one of these when I could grab some stone and make one of those instead. I just... doubt there are many steel hammers running about Cantr.

...as opposed to all the iron hammers you'd make?

Steel hammer is pretty much a relic. Maybe some day it'll get a worthwhile purpose in the form of greater efficiency...but that can't be done yet.

I just wanted to know why it was there, since no one makes em anymore.

Steel is too hard to come by to waste it on a hammer.

 Nothing says 'I love you' like giving your loved one a steel hammer to hit you over the head with.

Sounds like we need to implement skillets. Nothing says I love you liike a cast iron skillet upside the head.

There are different forms of tools for an easy to see reason.

The low grade ones are to stop you all from complaining. And so that you can actually BUILD stuff.

I'd like to see you try to smelt steel, without a steel hammer to build the machine. Bwah hahahaha! *Cough*

As well, later down the road, tools will have different efficiencies.

Also, currently, different tools degrade at different rates.

Oh? Do we actually have degredation now?

Because if we're still in resets this doesn't mean a whole lot.

And the tool degradation rates are waaaay off balance.
I believe the stone hammer degrades just as fast as the steel hammer, because it is indeed the wood that's degrading fastest.
Bone, for some reason, is one of the most durable materials I've seen.

I've got a steel hammer. :D It's like a status symbol . . . "I have a steel hammer and all you have is that crappy stone one."

Probably from the good 'ole days when steel was easier to get. Same thing with the iron trowel. Those used to be a lot easier to make than the kind with wood.

There are still some good reasons for an iron trowel...

-You can make one without wood, and then build a full-size smelter or an oven (though I don't think you can make a bellows without wood)...
-It degrades at a much, much slower rate than a 'wood trowel'....which can matter as soon as it's allowed to.

Steel hammer, though...that's just to look impressive at the moment.
