I don't see why not. (Even though that's not what Seko said in the first place and you're just setting up straw men like usual...) You could start 15 characters with the same basic personality, and if they were RPed well, or
at all, they would become different based on their surroundings. That's not the same as a single-note gimmick repeated over and over for every char.
I rarely start mine with any specific quirks or beliefs
at all, actually, but that doesn't mean they're 'clones'. I just personally think it makes more sense to let them develop naturally.
That is not what I was talking about, at all. That is slowly building your character to be different but anyone who plays this game for more than a few months will start seeing staple players with very typical responses and actions.
They are exactly the same as several others and only change based on name. They are character that most people have little trouble dealing with and only because the player "writes well" and knows how to emote. You might like these characters but they are INDEED exact clones (And I wanna name names so bad but that'd be bad form). I find this fundamentally wrong and punishing someone for similar behavior simply because they write bad is an elitist attitude.
It comes down to the fact that this player spoke OOC without addressing OOC and typed bad... that's it. The first is technically against the CR, last I remember, but the second I HIGHLY DOUBT.
He broke the "picture book view" of Cantr and people got pissy. I can GUARANTEE you that if this player typed "as well as the rest of us" if not better and removed the "meow" not a single one of you would complain if his characters were all the same.... or notice!
Story end.
