this is a good thing to introduce, but without in-built consensus making processes, this could become annoying very quickly... but that's only speculation, we'll see I guess...

I don't understand that at all. Could you paraphrase that?

You would have to ask in each village what the name of the village is. The same goes for the roads.

See, that would mean that maps aren't at all maps...they're just lists of landmarks, where you have to ask new directions. There ought to be some way of making an actual map that works.

(No, I'm not complaining! Really! Just looking one more step ahead!)

I'm guessing that a newspawn, or someone new to an area will see the place-name, building names, vehicle names etc. as their original names?

In which case, is someone moves into a building and it goes from being 'Bob's steel emporium' to 'Sally's Carrot warehouse', it'll have to be introduced to every new person that comes along... as will change's of names of vehicles...

It's less important with name-changes of places, as I doubt any places with large populations would change thier names, or, if they did, there'd be enough people to make sure evryone knows about it...

On the player page, buildings and veichles retain their original names.

And lighthouses also are non-dynamic.
edit: when on sea, anyway. no idea about when on land

I don't think so, because I'm guessing everyone else would still see it by its original name, unless they change it as well

If roads show the general direction they go then you would still be able to use maps that show the direction.

It's added, and no complaints are likely to remove it. Which should be somewhat obvious.

For now, and probably this is not going to change anytime soon, old names will still stay. So you can change how your char remembers the location name, but new spawns will just see the original name.

I do intend to remove names for new locations, though, to speed up the work of the new lands department. That was my motivation to implement this now - it's too slow to create new names ;) ... So you might eventually encounted locations that do not have a name yet until you name them.

But it would be too harsh to create a general amnesia, I think. At least I would have to warn timely, so that everybody can start naming the locations they already know :) ... But it would especially be hard with roads and, indeed, maps.

The lighthouses I forgot and will change soon, as well as apparently some bug when you're travelling ...

The player page will always show the original names. Not sure how to solve that, except with a somewhat intricate method. I might remove location names from the player page all together, though.

I'm not sure why you object, as with the current implementation, you can completely ignore it and play as you used to :) ...

It seems to me that you need it, but it would be incredibly strange. Really incredibly strange...

Without it, though, this feature isn't likely to ever be used for anything much. (except naming the new lands you mentioned)

Can't be worse than the sudden disappearance of raw iron, can it? In terms of disruption?

Edit: no rush on that, though...
