The latter group won out and got what they asked for. This was always a specific conflict of ideas between particular "oldies" in the game and the one bunch, it seems, managed to shout louder than the other bunch--perhaps because they specialize in noise-generation generally.

Perfectly put. The pure RPers are taking over in population, both in the player base and staff. If Cantr turns into another boring RPG, it will be due to this. Cantr sometimes forgets it's direction, methinks.

Thanks, West. :D

Of course, the most complex and interesting villains are those who don't consider themselves to be at all evil, nor are they considered such by their supporters. Actions should flow from how they view the interests of their group, rather than necessarily having a sudden break in behavior occur.

Was Robin Hood a terrorist? :P Guy Fawkes is certainly viewed as such, but had the catholics succeeded in overthrowing Tudor England, he would have been viewed as a liberator. And look what Shakespeare did to our collective memory of poor old Richard III. Shakespeare, let's face it, could teach Goebbels a thing or two when it comes to propaganda.

Is the restriction of iron-trading in the KDS not villainous? Again it's a question of perspective. There would be loads of scope for saying "We're the good guys....let's kill 'em all" :P But only if the game balance permitted any realistic chance of success. Stan's unusual and brilliant successes notwithsanding, that is where the problem lies.

I'm not sure anybody won or out-shouted or whatever. I think they try new things and it's almost impossible to anticipate what the effects will be. People were freaked by the wicked pirates (I blame west for this) and a solution was implemented. It turned out to make violence almost impossible and the game now suffers from a lack of conflict. Eventually something will change.

Even though I complain about the insanely high repair rates I know that they were implemented with good intentions of making Cantr a better game. Now fix them please. Hurry!

Villains.. Who are they to you.

Postby NastySteve » Tue Jul 19, 2005 1:58 am

Lets name names.

#11. Lord N Blackrock.. Every one knows who he is and what it means to contradict him. Great charactor.

...

#5. Alicia from S.F. Tough with complete lack of logic. Why wouldn't a charactor walk one or 3 towns farther to avoid her oppresiveness.
...
...

#1. Mary Williams. If you know her she has left a scar on your very soul. A power hungry woman devoid of goodwill obsesed with the forest of another. I picture her with huge hips, cankles and a pageboy hair cut all nated with forest debris.
I know my A B C's... But just not in alphabetical order. -drunk driver on COPS

I love Mary and Alicia. I think it's hilarious that they get classified as villians so much, but I guess I just have the proper perspective! I think that their arrangement is one of the bright developments in the game, becasue they have a profound effect on the development of the region.

And the most creative response to their strategy I've seen...."Up yours Alicia Reed"

He's not much of a villain, compared to his predecessor.

I can't comment on Nick, but Ethan Blackrock was the best villian I have gotten to play against. That crappy "logic" of his when he was plotting the KS takeover drove me nuts...but it was great to watch! :D

A profound stifling effect.

I agree (approximately) with Steve's assessment of Mary. Alicia was much more reasonable. And Nick Blackrock never struck me as evil, just power-hungry. Alex Blackrock wasn't evil either, as much as he was kind of insane.

Hailey Blerks I would have considered evil, and Craktar.

The character of mine that most people would consider "evil" wasn't evil, per se. He just had no respect for the lives of others, and indeed viewed killing people as a challenge and something to do for fun, rather than a malicious act.

Side Note: Thanks to certain game changes (and the development timeline of his area), his second two massacres were not nearly as effective as his first two...

Of course, like any hedonist, he eventually got bored of it and turned to other pursuits.

My Sring-Sri Island character was the only "evil" one I have had. He grew that way, not his fault. All he saw was little weak people begging for things all day long. He didn't consider any of them anymore important than mountain goats, so killing them didn't matter. He also never self-promoted, no one knew he was a bad man until they were locked in his building. Even the massacres were blamed on the King and Katie Hoggs.
