Stone Ingot

Postby Surly » Fri Jul 15, 2005 5:54 pm

Right I have to say... how is that possible? An ingot is metal that has been cast into a particular, standard shape for convenient storage/trade.

How can you hammer a stone ingot? It's plain stupid.

Have to agree with you. An ingot-shaped stone is referred to as a 'rock'.

What is it used for? I've been assuming that it is either a stone ingot mold, or a stone sculped into the shape of an ingot to create ingot molds out of sand (most likely) with. Possibly hypothetical sand.

Considering that you can make a stone hammer and a cooking stone out of the same stone without using tools, I'd say a better question than how can you hammer one is what do you need the hammer for?

Also true

It's just hard to picture from an ooc perspective, but in cantr it's just as logical and possible to have a rose ingot, or a water ingot. They're all just grams anyway

No, it makes sense IRL, really...I think.

To make an ingot, you pour metal (or notably glass, in cantr at least) into an ingot-shaped hole in some material, often sand I think. So you need to make the ingot-shaped hole somehow. One way to do that is to press an ingot-shaped object of a more easily crafted material into the sand, leaving an impression.

Of course, that's assuming that I have the use right. I've never seen one of them used, or even made.

If it is a cast, then it does make sense. But they should say what it is... because a stone ingot as and ingot of stone, it just ain't happening.

I'm with the rest of you here.

Why do we have a Stone Ingot?

And here's another question.

How did it get by -ME-?

Hey, I'm so glad these things have been opened up for discussion. Now we don't all have to make one of the things each , just to see if we can figure out what they're for (maybe they're used form a cairn, after we all give up and chuck them away in disgust)

Yeah...but you need an iron shovel to build a fire pit out of stone, (and an iron chisel to make yourself a stone cooking-pot) I keep wondering how we'd ever have got out of the stone-age if real life was like that

That's why there is a spit, for those without a shovel.

Yeah, I know. I never tied the spit, becuse I heard it was inefficicient. And I had tried grilling and I know that's innefficient. If you havea fire-pit, stone pot, and a ready supply of wood however, you can cook your meat (including gathering the wood) just as fast as you could gather potatoes or carrots (without tools ), maybe a little bit faster.which seems a whole lot more reasonable.

What really bugs me is the curious fact that you need a shovel to make the fire-pit (chisel for the pot seems more reasonable) Is that to say our ancestors had no way of digging a hole until after they learned to process iron?
