Semaphore

Postby Antichrist_Online » Sun Jul 17, 2005 1:16 pm

This signaling device could be built in a town and appear on the location pages of nearby towns and ships, similar to a lighthouse. The signaling would be a repeated message of up to 50 combinations of six square which can be black or white. With this you can code up to 64 different characters/messages. The person at the other end would require a device like a looking glass and would conduct a project “Reading message”.

Semaphore Tower
10000g wood
1500g Hemp rope
1000g Iron
500g Steel

Project Sending Semaphore
Continuous like resting, only causing small amounts of tiredness.
A form with six boxes with on/off switches and a drag down box for the position number will show. A seventh button will turn that code on or terminate the message there.

Reading Semaphore
Started by button next to tower name on location page.
Receives list containing all signals sent in that period as small pictures. Perhaps a sunscreen like the animal one would show this.
Requires Looking glass/binoculars/telescope

Anyone with Looking glass/binoculars/telescope looking at that particular tower can. Thus people will have to develop in game coding for their messages, and code the semaphore themselves. Eg combo 64 could be end message, combo 54 could be theif on way, etc. That is using bianary coding with each one worth twice that on the right/left.

Each place has to have a tower to send or recieve this message?

Yeah. Every town needs a tower to send a message and someone watching to recieve one.

i like the idea, but it seems a bit ahead of our time in cantr.

I think it would be a good Idea, as long as anyone (within a range) with the tower can recieve this message...not just tower to specific tower type....

I have suggested this before and I still think it is a good idea.

I can't think of any messages that would be worth spending so much valuable material on except that an army is attacking.

If this were added I doubt that enough towns would build it to make it worthwhile.

EDIT: To correct a word

This sounds incredibly cool. Not only will it allow long distance communication, but it will allow for the development of in game coding systems, which could go a long way in developing something unique. I remember the last time this was discussed and was rather confused by the whole thing, but now that I get it, I really like it.

You are most probably right for the most part, but I bet larger clans would use it and could create havok on the rest of us!!!!

I don't think any long distance communication devices should be put into the game. A postal service should be enough. I've already seen a few of those. Ideal for a region with plenty of traffic.

yes, but it takes 1-10 days to travel, and what if a town is attacked? you wouldn't want to waint 10 days to know that there are enemys in the next town.

but really, if we have this, we should have a signal fire. alot simpler, alot less expensive, and alot easyer to build.

D'Oh! You're right! I'm trying to put myself out of a job! No No! It's a bad idea! Keep long range commnication out of the game!
