What do you guys think?

I totally agree with you Nick, but there is nothing we can do IC i believe. We may decide not to call it "English" but what about newcomers, I think that there will be great confusion, and OOC discussions will take place in the game. And it will slow the game, and drag it to OOC.

And also, "English" is just a word like "spinage", and "billy club" ... So how we name the language, does not have great importance.

But the most important point is the "first contact" of the different cultures... From the post i learn that some language groups has already had the "first contact" ... And some groups, are located on the same continent, and some are travelling between lands by sea.

I wonder if all islands are located on the same big map. (It is a question i should not ask but i really wan to learn  )

And as i am trying to build a new community from zero, it is a real big plot for us also. Travelling to new lands, and finding people, talking different languages, having different cultures, but the question is: Is there a link between Turkish community, and the others :?:

I also think that, in RL people can communicate with emotions, and it will be a problem between two different cultures, talking different languages... As our emotions are also, in our native language... So the solutions could be...

1 ) :) :(
2 ) *emotions in english* as most of the people can talk it but not ALL

as others propose before on the topic

3 ) putting "buttons" like "hit" for emotions, not too many, but let us say 10
like: hello, bow, smiles, hand shake, frown, angry ....

And all have small descriptions, translated for every language, I guess it may be a solution, and after that people will start to learn, different languages, from "zero" ... It will bring great fun to the game i guess...

And Junesun will be very happy with it. Than she may demand for 30 charecters but

Please let us make the Contact Jos please

Maybe Junesun will make up a list of basic emotes in different languages and we could pm her for them if we need them.

Actually it could be on a webpage. The problem will be those emotes that are rather long and not exactly basic, for example *approaches the tomb and turns to the crowd, waiting for them to stop chatting* .

On the other hand, defining basic emotes might discourage people from writing their character's thoughts into the * *.

Which would be a very nice side-effect :p

It's nice to add emotions to speech, like *his voice turns sad* when speaking, but thoughts as such are really a little irritating and imho just not very good roleplaying ...

*thinks about a way to respond to Jos' allegations*

AAARRRGH

I hate it when people emote like this. HATE IT.

Much better to say *his face clouds over, as if he is deep in thought*

That way, you show something that is VISIBLE without putting something that nobody else could possibly see into an emote.

RGGGGHHHH. WEST KILL! RRRGGGHHH.

*grins as if he will be making a note to himself to quote Jos next time someone says that there's nothing wrong with that style of RP*

what's worse than that is when people emote like that and then other people with other chars say things like

"You shouldn't say that to Jos, Nick! What's your problem?!"

eh. n00bs.

I also can't wait and wonder what happen if some English explorers discover polish islands

That would be interesting - like meeting with Japanesse in XV century :) or Chinesse as well. What would be even more interesting, some of polish "Indians" would understand imigrants  but imigrants wouldn't understand us.

This could be a new era! (conections between two biggest civilisations in the Cantr world). I can't wait...

this language thing is really frustrating.

my spanish character is in a forest right now with a Dutch-speaker and a French-speaker. so far the only legitimate conversation we've had is pointing at ourselves and saying our names.

this inter-language contact makes way for a lot of frustrating, but really good RP. so if you know a language other than english, play it.

as for english meeting polish or something... i know both of my sailor characters would be really, really confused.

But our Polish characters can't know English language automatically, because this would be Capital Rule breach (even if we as players known English language). They must at least learn language very slowly.
