A torus would be something that is shaped like a doughnut. If you took a sheet of paper (the map) and folded it into a tube, that would represent a map that wraps on one side, so then you need to make the tube have the ends meet, leaving you with a torus.

OK, I think I sorta understand. But it seems like either the N/S or E/W trip would be a much shorter distance to travel than the other (assuming it started out as a flat, squarish map). Wouldn't that be true? Wouldn't that distort the distances in some way? Or maybe it was just designed that way to begin with so that the flat map is a long, skinny rectangle.

I'm not sure why I'm asking. It's not like my chars are going to be doing any complicated nautical calculations. I'm just curious, now.

Also, are we sailing on the inside or the outside of the donut?

It really doesn't matter, and both would work just fine. Living in a hollow torus would be just about as awsome as living on a mobious strip with tunnels to the other side (or rather the same side).

It seems like living on the outside would leave more posibilities open...like for visits from aliens! or just looking at the sky. We know there is a sun because it reflects off the bracelets (or something). I guess the sun could travel through the center of the hollow tube. If it is hollow, that is. It could be full of gel...styling gel!

you know, i want to know if anyone has discoverd a "new land" or somthing. i just want to know what direction it is compared to k island. or that one cotonent that has blaman, cantr city, and setown in it.
