There's no real conflict, nothing left to strive for, so the result is that people just seem to stand around and treat the town square like a chatroom. I think the only way that region is going to be interesting again is if there's some kind of major shakeup or threat to motivate people and get them unified towards a common goal. Unfortunately they seem to have dug themselves so deeply into a nice safe rut that that may never happen. (Actually, the same could probably be said of a lot of Cantrian cities...)

Drojf has succeeded at some point? Recently? I must have missed it. Was it more than 600 days back?

It's hard to get anything to happen, I agree. Part of it is probably that the Drojf government doesn't want to be a communistic manufacturing engine, which seems to be the only effective way to mobilize people. Part of it is that they have all these ghosts of previous ages still around...most of them fat and happy.

IRL, you know, it would be a pretty wonderful place...it's actually gone a few decades without disaster, unlike most of the world. IC, people get bored when that happens.

The way I see it, any place that has iron production is successful. The step from the Stone to the Iron Age is the biggest one a town can make, really the one goal they all seem to aim for. After all, it's not keeping your population fed and content is much of a struggle...

Of course steel is a big deal too, but to the masses wielding their bone clubs the difference between a person with access to iron and a person with steel is like the difference between a multi-millionaire and a billionaire in real life. One might be technically better than the other, but they're both so far out of the average person's league that the difference doesn't matter much.

Once everyone important has sabers and iron shields there's not much to do after that except to RP love affairs and weddings. I suppose expanding into an empire could be the next step, but not many governments seem inclined to do it.

Ah, the age old misconception that steel is somehow harder to get or more valuable than iron.

Well I wouldn't know. It could very likely be a conspiracy spread by the privileged elite to keep the masses down. :P

All I know is that people with steel sabers both scare me and make me want to plot their deaths at the same time... (Especially those who insist on carrying around multiple sabres. It's like, okay, you're rich. I get it.)

It might not be harder to get... but it is more valuable.

Because it requires iron to make...

:)

In Akypor Forest South:
Producer's value of iron: 16.7 grams/day
Producer's value of steel: 16.8 grams/day

In fact though, we would price iron for trading at 14 g/day and steel at 12 g/day.

Which is what I said before in another thread.

A bit off-topicky, since this has nothing to do with KDS so ignore me if necessary.

Don't we all hate them? But the thing is when everyone hates them it's hard for them to find people who'd be trustworthy enough to hand the extra sabre to, and if you give it to a nice person who soon dies of the sleeping sickness, you might have someone picking up the sabre from the corpse and attacking you with it. Ouch.

And a sabre doesn't quarantee survival. I dragged in and locked up a sleeper wielding a sabre, although I was too wounded to do any notable damage to him, the bugger finally dropped dead (of auto deletion I believe) and I got the sabre - along with a travel diary telling how he'd also gotten it from a fresh corpse! Oh the irony...

Well, most of the people who contributed to that air have died and/or left the region, with one noteable exception, but I don't really think there's too much breachiness in general in that area.

In the past, yes.

I agree in the talk of Krif - I have had several characters spawn there and it is the most unfriendly town - the worst offenders are Tom Smith who tries to cheat any newspawn (who is lucky enough to gather something valuable) in trades and the sleeping leaders - if you can't remain active - give up leadership. The rest are just inactive old people who can't get it together or don't care to at this point.

I have to say that KDS region was always my favorite place. Yes, it has been the setting where alot of cheating, and other things, but for me that's always been the most interesting and dynamic region in Cantr. No place else comes close. Thankfully, I'm lucky enough to have a new char floating around in there.
