You forgot "Monarchy-- not elected," which is by far the more common type of monarchy anywhere. In fact, what the heck is an elected monarchy except a republic?

"Monarchy not elected" is similar to "Despotism" :D

In "Monarchy" the monarch once elected is pernament, forever.
In "Republic" authorithy could be changed

I think that is a difference.

I voted anarchy merely because if you look at all the locations in the big picture, the majority of them are not under claim.

Not necessarily the one I'd like to be living in. I don't know if I have a favorite.

No, Monarchy-not elected could be Monarchy by inheritance (the Passing of the Keys), or Monarchy by Right of Being the Only Guy There.

Despotism is what we see so very often in the Forests-- tribal leadership by force of arms.

My favorite governments in game have been where the people who had been around the longest sort of share the responsibility for helping the newer members. This can go wrong too, but when it works I think it has made for the smoothest social structure I have played in.

Is this opinion or based on how many of those goverments actually exist?

Also, you are missing at least one other....a communal system.

Serenity beat me to it. Yes, a communal system needs to be on the poll.

I'd also love to see a Theocracy in Cantr. But that's another topic.

As far as what's out there, Anarchy's probably the biggest, followed by the Tribal Council system for those towns just coming out of anarchy. From there it really depends on the personalities in the town, but I'd say Despotism's the next biggest, and then maybe Republic or Communal systems.

I feel that it's tough to differentiate a Monarchy from a Despotism in Cantr. No one's died of old age yet, so the passing of the key's that proves it's a monarchy is not really tested all that much.

As for which of these governments is my favorite? I like the council/communal governments. Followed closely by the Republic system, so long as there's a good standing army. :)

Well, I've never seen a tribal council, nor really a monarch or anything.

The most thing I've seen is defacto leadership, either by people who became leader because all the old people died and are still alive, or someone who became unofficial leader just because they take on leadership role.

The most common though, would be the rule by gangs and militias, although most of those groups would not call themselves that.

I though about the comunal system, but I was interested in who rules?

I think comune is rather social sytem than a goverment.
Imagine comune... there can be three options of ruling:

• Despotism (like in USSR  ) One man who is strong enough to force his ideas - even if everything belongs to everyone

• Direct democracy, where everyone decides about any decision by voting every idea - ideal comune

• Tribal council, where some natural leaders (because of their wise and experience) decides what to do, and others accept it with trust.

That's why I didn't put comune into poll.

That's what works best, if it goes right.
If you have good leaders, that is.

I agree.

If you have only one leader, the community is very vulnerable, because if that one leader gets the sleeping illness the struggle for power starts which will cause temporarilly political chaos.

If you have the direct democracy, the decission taking takes very long.

If only a few people are the ones taking decissions, the making of decissions can be done quickly and if one councillor falls asleep the remaining counsillors are still able to make decissions.

PS. I just love the political games in Cantr. Not that I have a lot of political figures. It's a shame actually......

I feel safe in saying that there is no such thing as a traditional 'Monarchy' in Cantr. For one obvious reason.

Natural Leader and "Only Key Holder" are two different things.

I think anarchy/tribal governments are the most common.

There is a theocracy in cantr run by one of my characters, but I'm not saying where.

My personal favorite form of leadership was a benigh dictatorship, similar to the old Sjoftich system or what I'm aiming for somewhere else. Similar to communism but with a perminant strong leader who does whats best for his people (instead of seeking power).
