music lovers help me!

Postby colonel » Sat Jun 25, 2005 2:07 pm

Okay, I just got a mp3 player and well I need ideas for music. I have lots but I want some new ideas please. So list songs here that you think I should check out and please say what kind of music it is and why I should listen to it. Thank you.

Now first off: NO COUNTRY!

I am a big fan of Techno music but I am up for just about anything except, COUNTRY!

So what are you waiting for? GO!

well, that "no country" thing is a mighty tall order. I can only assume you mean no country-pop like is played on the radio, a la "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" or "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy".

Surely you can't be dissing on Johnny Cash or Hank Sr.

But I digress. The music I'm currently into is mostly indie folk and pop, so that might be a little too "country" for you.

Check out my audioscrobbler for a list of what I like; it's obviously what I'd recommend.

Out of interest, what kind of mp3 player is it? I have a 20GB iRiver h120 player....one of the best investments I ever made.
I'm not dead; I'm dormant.

Oh no, I would never dis them and yes I was talking about the stuff they call country now.

Thanks, I will check them out.

I forgot all about that thing. Now how does it work again? LOL

Do people on the Cantr list still use it?

You're from Sask. and you don't like country? That's all I can pick up when I'm there... That and gun ads. :)
"Get your shotguns and ammunition" ... Kept me laughing for a couple minutes...

Anyways, for techno get John Digweed or Paul Van Dyke

Yes I still use it, though I tend to consult the statistics less than before.

I don't listen to much techno, but I will give you a couple of my favorites for the types of music that I do listen to (jazz and rock).

Foo Fighters
Miles Davis
Freddie Hubbard

Perhaps if I get around to it, I will add a few more, but I suggest that you take a look at these (some are classics, and you probably have heard some Davis aleady) because these are as good as they get (in my opinion of course).

Yes Miles Davis is good, A remix of his songs would be better for me though so I will take a look and see what I can find. Hee hee, j/k.

Thank you, I will check them out. I am not a big fan of foo fighters cause I think one of them is a killer. Ha ha ha, j/k again.

I don't know the other one so I will have to check it out, thanks.

I guess I will mention a few other bands that I think are worth listening to.

Reel Big Fish
Cake

Cake is one where the songs are either hit or miss for me. I like the full band Ska sound of RBF

For Indie rock, I do like some of Cake's bits.

However, what about going back a few decades and picking up some Rock hits. Led Zeppelin (Black Dog, Stairway to Heaven, Immigrant song, Kashmir, etc), Pink Floyd (The Wall Part II, Mother, Trial, Wish you were here, etc), Queen (We will rock you/we are the champions, Bohemian Rhapsody, Seven Seas of Rhye, etc), Rolling Stones (Satisfaction, You can't always get what you want, Angie, Paint it Black, Honky Tonk Girls, etc) and the list goes on and on and on and on. You'll find something you'll like. That you've heard before.

Pft. All you ever need is Weird Al. Should I go through my four hours' worth?
Just because you're older, smarter, stronger, more talented... doesn't mean you're BETTER.
