There are IC reasons to have gold clothing or nice clothes, but they mostly are that it allows you to flaunt you relative wealth, which inspires others to think of you as a successful (inset job title here) which can in turn earn you respect and possibly contracts, ect. These are fairly minor when compared to OOC influences, but they still exist

And iron bracers would be what I would consider the real status symbol.
Gold is otherwise useless... and is rarely mined for that reason. And it's not so hard to make gold jewelry, either.
No more reason to like gold jewelry than... anything else. Besides OOC influence, as I said.
Embroidered Bracers not only look nice, but infact prove there IS a sun in Cantr
You can all credit Crag with discovering the sun!
Here is the official description:
a pair of well crafted bracers fit snugly to the wearers arms, shimmering in the sunlight with their many diamonds, clear glass beads, and other valuable metals

Hey guys, I just went to dictionary.com to look up sorghum....
(Pronunciation Key)sor·ghum [ sôrgm ]
n.
An Old World grass (Sorghum bicolor), several varieties of which are widely cultivated as grain and forage or as a source of syrup.
Syrup made from the juice of this plant.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[New Latin Sorghum, genus name, from Italian sorgo, a tall cereal grass, probably from Medieval Latin surgum, perhaps variant of Vulgar Latin *syricum, from neuter of Latin Syricus, Syrian, from Syria Syria.]

Uh, Nick? This is a multi-lingual game. I think it's unfair to decide that people can't look things up in the dictionary to find out what they are.
I happen to know what sorghum is, but just because someone looks it up and posts the dictionary definition is no reason to be a jerk and tell them not to even discuss that much. If I post the definition of "steel" or "car," nobody would just assume that they were the same in Cantr, and the person posting didn't even say what it is in game terms or how it is used, just what the real world dictionary defines it as.

You are hopelessly addicted to Cantr...
When you think a pineapple can replace a Band-aid.
When you can prove that there is, in fact, a sun on Cantr!

Say what? Something other than a saber and a kilo of iron to work for? Surely you jest Kinvoya! I think the woman has lost her mind.
And I've seen sorghum in real life, but it was used for something completely different than it is in game. It's seriously a stupid thing to steal though. The random acts of thievery are seriously threatening to end my Cantr addiction I think.
It wasnt a random act of thievery, it was actually incredibly well planned and carried out, so there...

a man in his sixties says: "Gather 'round newspawns, gather 'round. I want to tell you all about the time I staged the great sorghum heist of 1176. There they were asleep, as people tend to do, when I lept from the ground and proceeded to run from building to building grabbing everything that wasn't nailed down. The poor fools were helpless to my plot as I darted to and fro silently grabbing some small bones and feathers in one house, a crumbling primitive bow in the next, one thousand grams of barley for which the most brilliant minds in all of Cantr have not divined a use for -- so I had to have it! *he winks* -- and finally, the sorghum...oh the sorghum, my most coveted possession in all of Cantr City. Still the sleepers were helpless to defend against me! Suzy Bake was sleeping with her head in the oven, while John Horner was in the corner on the cot with a freshly baked loaf of the precious grain's yield. Deftly, I grabbed all of the sorghum on the floor -- 10000 grams! I could hardly contain my excitement! I sprang for the door with a flash and took of down the road cackling with greed after scribbling "Mayer Poop face is a fat head" on every note on the ground and starting 25 building projects named "Shizzle can eat my........" and applying 10 grams of stone to each one. I headed down the road, victorious over my contribution to society."
a man in his twenties says: "Wow! You were the bravest man in all the world! Oh if only all of us could be like you, sir!"
a woman in her twenties says: "Oh yes! I hope I can be a famous note thief when I get older. Oh how everyone will sing my praises and shower me with riches beyond all imagination!"
a man in his fourties says: "But wait old man...what is a nail? I have never seen anything what you called, "nailed down", before. How would that prevent you from stealing it? ( OOC: Please, let's avoid introducing OOC concepts that have no bearing on the mechanics of the game and only add to the roleplaying flavor of the world. We want to keep the world as free of imagination as we possibly can people.)"
Sorry, Floyd. I got a little bitter that day.

I looked over a number of chars in the Character directory thread, and this one http://www.cantr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5233. I honestly have encountered almost 2 people off of Each person's list on there. If not, it was 1 and my char knew them for a long time. There are some exceptions, but generally speaking that holds true. I've been in this game too long! lmao!
