There were two sets of Freedom Fighters. There were the guys from Krif that eventually allied with the Seatown Warriors. And then the people from Drojf (Elanor Roi was the leader of this group). The Dark Legion mostly made up the original SJs. When Whitmore came back from spying on Seatown, he came across this group of Dark Legion troops who claimed that Maynard was dead, murdered by Craktar, and that Craktar was hunting down and killing all the remnants of the old empire including the Dark Legion. So Whitmore joined them. The group was led at the time by a guy named Darth who Whitmore later betrayed and got killed. After Darth died, Nathan Holmes took over and I think that is when the name was changed to the Alliance though the Seatown Warriors kept referring to them as the SJs.
In response to Sociologist, the reason why you never heard of the Seatown Warriors is because the MacGregors (who were Seatown Warriors) rewrote history and made it so that they were the ones that defeated the SJs and freed the region of the tyranny of those times. A lot of the written histories in that region are fabricated falsehoods or twisting of actual events to make the people writing them seem more important or better then they actually were. Has anyone ever read Whitmore's history of the region? He did write it and place on the ground but the powers to be seem to cover it up because it contradicted what was already written by the powers.
I'm not creating in game histories on the forums. I like to discuss what actually happened or what I can remember as best as I can and compared it to what is in the game now.
And there are people in Naron and Ladvicitavoi still following the ways of the Empire. So what if your character can name the Emperors. Does he live in Naron or Ladvicitavoi? (Anyway the emperors are, Alexi Romanov, Agop Pasdfui, Senacca Hawethorne, and I think Brian Hildebrand can be considered the current one) They aren't bringing it outside the areas right now. As far as what happened to DoUrden, I'm not sure. I haven't had a character near that area for a long time but if they are following their ways then they are simply trying to gain wealth anyway they can and hoarding in their Estates. I think that region was wiped out by the sneezing disease so it might have gotten as far as Brinks Forest especially since DoUrden had outposts in Vray Hills where the disease began and from what I hear had the greatest toll on the people.

Erm... aside from material wealth, the thing I always want with my characters is to be remembered. Thats why I always strived to go to the extremes.
But I doubt anyone remembers any of my characters... or at least the way I wanted them to be remembered.

Do you ever listen to the scarey-ass, dictatorial things you say?

I'm almost tempted to ask the CD to move the unrelated ramblings about history into another post, since it has little to do with character motivations now.... But then, we'd have to do that for every thread that goes on and on about how things were back in the "Good Ol' Days" of 200-750.

Nothing scary or dictatorial about it. It's what every corporation, political party, church, labor union, etc, etc, tries to do. Have you never been through one of those "Our corporate way" enculturation sessions?
It amuses me that so many in the West--and especially in the US--make this big deal about individualism and how they can and do do as they please...that's until they're faced with the choice of voting Kerry or Bush.
Individualism is an ideology, not a reality.
The fact remains. In Cantr, the challenge is to create something that will outlive you, or that will spread beyond your immediate day-to-day control and yet maintain loyalty to the vision you have shaped. In other words if others somehow look to you as a symbol that will continue to inform their lives. Hence the rating given to El Adan.
Most people playing this game have an incorrect view of the minimum unit of organization. They think the town itself is like a US town and that the individual is the economic unit. Wrong. Something much larger, perhaps even the entire town itself, should be the economic unit.

The DoUrdens in Vray hills were dead almost two years ago. lol WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY before the sneezing disease ever got there. One time a DoUrden came through looking for a bike of which one of my characters who lived inVrayll South, inheritted due to the death of a loved one whom in turn inherritted the bike from a DoUrden that at one time occupied their town.
lol The guy couldn't get the bike back from my char and ran off to tell the people in Brinks of this, explaining to my char he'd be back and she'd be sorry for not returning it. He never returned.
Thats how dead the DoUrdens are, from my persepective.
I hate people.

Having read the first post to thread and ignoring the two plus pages of blah blah blah and yackity shmackity in between there and here....I'll just post my thoughts that everyone can promptly ignore and continue on with whatever side discussion this turned into....
For me the purpose of Cantr is to develop personalities, which are ultimately one of the key elemens in the formation of society. All the material mechanics, tools and trinkets to make, and interactions with the actions of other players serve as the game environment in which I the player get to cultivate and grow each personality I give life to and control.
The beauty of Cantr is that many aspects of personality are there to develop, from personal motivations to the character's understanding of his / her role in grand scheme of things. The purpose of Cantr is to play a role and to sit back and watch how that role interacts with all of the other roles until it is weaved into a rich tapestry of story and simulated society.
For just a few moments out of each day I get to step into a world that is not this one and into a life that is not my own, to feel free to explore aspects of life and culture currently unavailable to myself, but are fully accessible to my little digital alter egos floating somewhere out there in cyberspace, in a world that is relatively free of mechanical restrictions and rules - a land where imagination reigns supreme and its bounds are limitless. That is what Cantr's purpose is for me.

.
the reason for that is that you have to be a citizen to vote in America.37% of America is American, and the rest are either gay, and elegal alian, or we cant understand them when they vote. its mostly the latter.
