In some places, too much responsibilties are put onto one char. Like oh say, Senator and banker. One of each, one in the same. Lets say that one person has been "asleep" for going on 5 days.... It would be hard to do anything
That, as I was saying, is the fault of the town and the characters in that town. Someone should've thought about the repercussions prior to appointing those positions to the same person.

What you don't seem to understand is that in alot of the circumstances you arent asked.. You seem to be the one doing everything and so everyone automatically relies on you. It then becomes your job to take care of things. You seem to be the only one doing something so they assume you are the one in charge.

Some people work for the Leader position but on most occasions that isn't the way it goes..

Something I wanted to point out in my larger post earlier, is how certain governments have certain peculiar, but truly interesting laws. The MacGregors and the ol' Lad Empire both had laws that said you could not talk to their leaders unless addressed. That is one way to keep one from being overwhelmed with people, as well as setting a degree of separation between the mass populace and the government. It's not like I talk to Bush everytime I need something done. Like in real life, Governments should have representatives, and not all of them should be the same person.

But it has to start somewhere. like "do you want to be our leader?"... A simple no is easy to say when you already have too many important ones.

But it isn't always that simple...more apt then not you won't be asked, the char will just wake up one day and find out he's "the man" because everyone else is either sleeping or dead. Out of all the high positions any of my chars held there was only one I actually tried for because I wanted it (sorry Charlie Parker  ).

I don't know about the MacGregors, but Lad didn't start the law for any practical purpose, it was just a symbol of the "specialness" of the Emperor and other higher ups by making them inaccessable to the commonners.

Talking aloud in public was also frowned upon in Lad, and even got someone killed one time. I especially liked that rule, that one really kept the event screen clean

Anyways, as much as I don't like a lot of event garbage at times, sometimes constant whispering when you're checking characters keeps you checking the same character over and over and over. I find that just as irritating, if not more so.

Leaders have to cultivate aids from among active players and delegate responsibilities. Too many leaders want to have all the power in their own hands because they don't trust anyone. Then the player gets overwhelmed and gives up. Sure, they get ripped off sometimes by people they trust but embezzlement happens in rl too.

Then they aren't leaders. A leader needs to know how to and who to delegate to. One of the great failures of leaders is not being able to delegate others even in small groups.

I've never had an inactive character in a leadership role, nor will I.

I only currently have one character in a leadership role, and I believe he is my most favorite character ever. I obsess over him, his obligations, needs and wants, as well as the things he needs and wants to do as much as he obsesses over those things.

What my biggest fear ever is? Is him retiring and knowing t here aren't a whole lot of people who are able to be awake for one character and solely focused on that one character as much as I am.

Some people don't have any clue what it takes to make a character a perfectionist, and for that perfectionist to actually be perfect. Never forgetting a thing that is asked of him, a thing that needs done. Never not getting those things done. I don't think there is one time since he's been a top figure that he's forgotten something. Where as some people go to sleep and wake up and they're like "Oh, I forgot I needed to do that. TOo late now?" He has never done that. Nothing has ever not been done. If it's a long term goal, he always still has it on his mind knowing it needs finnished. I don't think he has discovered yet, that there is no end.

It's weird how this game was meant to be played by people who want to only check once a day, yet it seems that the only type of government I'm attracted to, are ones where there are people who take their position so seriously that you can actually sense the responsibility in that character and trust that the town is going to go somewhere.

Come to think of it, there aren't many towns where I think that the leaders are awake enough. One place in particular that I find a failure is Krif.

Just my opinion. :P

I seriously don't believe this is a game for people who only want to check briefly once a day. What is the point for them? They can't really rp or achieve anything. I don't think that should be part of the description of the game anymore.

I object to any move to remove that phrase. It is a game for those people... they just can't be active leaders. *shrugs* Those who log on regularly already dominate (that's not necessarily a good thing), there is no point in driving away a potential player.

mortaine> Blojt is lovely for that - my older charrie there enjoys it - but it was deeply frustrating for them as a newspawn - and continues to be for anyone else - passing through Blojt teaches you patience - if nothing else

and kinvoya> I started playing Cantr only logging in once a day for ten minutes of so. The past few weeks, I've managed ten minutes or so a day, and will now be looking at ten minutes or so every other day at the most - and it's still very playable. If you have character's in quiet places, you don't need to log in often. And if you're prepared to have a sleppy/quiet character in a busy place - you can get by with focusing only on the exchanges that are important

The only character I have that (jointly) runs a town has got really sleepy recently - but she still manages to get done what's needed, and engage in the important discussions - although she's had to delegate some of her usual tasks - and is dissappointed at how untidy the place is getting with her sleeping so much...
Whoever you vote for.

The government wins.

Whatever. I just don't see why they would even play if they aren't doing anything, but...yeah...whatever.

 It's not like anything has ever changed due to my suggestion, anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it. I can't even get bead necklaces added.

EDIT: Didn't see your post HF. I guess it works for some. *shrugs*

I do find that those who aren't awake a lot are important to the game still, I just very much dislike it when they get themselves into a leadership role and don't do anything or don't hand keys over to someone who could watch things while they are sleeping.

But I do keep in mind that different things make that happen just as well. Sometimes you think someone is going to be awake all the time, they even appear to be awake all the time, but then some suchness like losing internet happens when they least expect it.

Im not asking for a change because that will never happen and there is no way to ensure only active people play this game. lol The best thing to ensure it is the fact that accounts idle out. :)
