A simple request (a.k.a. A bit of a rant)

Postby formerly known as hf » Fri Jun 17, 2005 1:20 pm

[rant - feel free to ignore]When people go away for sometime, or don't expect to be able to log-in much. Could people please RP it IC? Then, maybe add a little OOC after that?
If someone else says something like OOC: I'm going away, please feed me/don't expect a reply/I'm going to work on this whilst I'm away for a bit etc. etc. I'm in half a mind to lock them up/let them starve (for OOC reasons - but what the hey...)

By the way, this isn't aimed at anyone or any character in particular, I've just seen it a few times the past week or so in various places[/rant]
Whoever you vote for.

I totally agree,

I sometimes use sleeping sickness, as a way to do it IC,

But some other can be more creative

Maybe he needs to spend sometime by himself i am not sure.

Yeh I agree but you don't have to use OOC. Usualy a *yawn* or a "I'm feling very sleepy" works.

I usually respond to these IC as if they had said something that was more in-character, like "Oh, sure, I understand if you're sleepy and need a break. I'll take care of you, friend...."

If I were someone else (NICK), I would probably then beat them up and take their stuff..... ;)

Yes, I like it roll-played. I had four of my characters get this exact OOC message yesterday. If I need to be out for several days, I try to say it as a whisper to the closest friend of my character. So that one person knows and no one else. Then role play the rest of it for the community.

Sometimes it annoys me Cantr is so strictly no OOC. You're going somewhere and you'd like to say more than just "away from computer for X days" but you're afraid of pissing people off. Not everybody comes to the forums, nor is everybody on the forums around your characters to benefit from an away message. You may have friends ingame but not knowing who plays them. Sometimes I have a big temptation to share something OOC but I usually manage to stop myself.

I think in Tircqi there's some girl who said they'll be gone for two weeks. I've never seen her saying anything else but she's still alive or was the last time I checked. There was another character apparently of the same player in Kiii or somewhere because it was the same message at the same time. This one died later on. So yes, just OOC away messaging is bad, if you want people to be able to react to it somehow, you need to say something IC as well.

Yeah I would perfer IC messages, but I don't think any less of the player behind the charachter. Of course I don't think more either. Ove seen some very good players do the same thing. It all boils down to how much time you have before you have to leave.

I think it was 'Blessed are the cheesemakers.'

I think Mortaine was just trying to give you a good natured poke in the ribs. Could be wrong though, I am terrible at reading people.

It's unfortunate that some people have less time than others to check Cantr even if it is due to somthing temporary. However, lately the amount of OOC requests for people to help feed their characters has become a bit much.
To state the obvious.....
