Examining corpses

Postby wulf » Fri Jun 17, 2005 10:42 am

I see that we can now examine dead bodies. Out of morbid curiosity, one of my characters has just taken a look at two in the town where he is currently residing, both of which yield the description:
This body seems to be older than a year. The cause of death is not visible.

One of the bodies in question belongs to someone who died only yesterday - certainly less than a year ago. Am I misinterpreting the information or is the examanation returning false results?

I would be thinking it means older than 21,since we spawn at age 20 but I could be wrong...

Well no one has died since implementation. If I were Jos I wouldn't research the bodies histories to individualize their deaths, but just give a generic line until the new ones come up. I expect to see "cuts all over" and "looks very thin" and "clicked the X button". :)

No, it's a description of how the old the body is since death.

If a 20-year-old body is unburied for 20 years, it'll be a 40-year-old body.

It's true. Thus knowing whether the body is a newspawn who died 20 years ago or a 40-year-old who died two days ago is helpful.

I saw one that said the person died of a heart attack. So now we know that Cantrian's have hearts and can die of at least one physical ailment.

But when someone starts a burying project and doesn't finish it (and there are lots of those), you can still see the corpse but not examine it. Where's the sense in that?

The ability to examine corpses comes exactly 1 day after someone died in front of me and I really needed to determine the cause of death. Dangit.

I saw someone die today of starvation, and when I looked, it said, "shows clear signs of starvation". So that works.

No that was a tiny bug I just realised later yesterday ... Now the old ones will simply not say anything about how long ago death took place, only those that died since yesterday.

I wish we could see it on the older bodies..think of the good role-playing that could come from finding out that a councilor had been murdered - that would have been worth it dragging all those bodies in Krif instead of burying them.

Assuming, of course, that one had.
