The captain may be experiencing post-stasis sleeping sickness. McCoy would probably be able to better explain if he were still alive... but I think it may be wise to investigate without the captain's permission at this point. Come on...

He leaves the bridge heading for the medical bay.

He groans, and holds his head between his hands

I am sorry people... I will be better after the next stasis, I assure you. Now as for what we do... we need to keep calm, people. Nothing rash.

He nods slowly, and tries to smile encouragingly

Now, I will prepare for the stasis... I apologise for my continued inactivity, but I assure you that will change after stasis. And by then, we will know if there is any matter to address.

He straightens his uniform, and heads for his stasis capsule.

Those numbers were mearly on the assumption that a murderer is on this ship. Even if we do not use my power save statistics the chances of survival without heavy casualties is 35%. And even lower if the ship sustains heavy casualties.

begins monitoring figuers being displayed across his screen and a picture of Sparkle pops up

Hmm yes. That is interesting.

Begins typing more then a picture of Dr. McCoy shows up

Ahh. Yes that does seem nice.

the screen closes down

Also with these new figures. It is probable that Dr. McCoy's room did in fact malfunction. As a slight discrepensy in the stasis system would have undesirable effects on the body. The mysterious loss of blood can be one of those factors.

The malfunction also may be small enough to be unnoticed while we are in the wake cycle as normal space and hyper space are two completely different things and the energy fluctuating through out the entire ship during hyper space would make those unnoticable problems very dangerous.

The crew examines Dr. McCoy's drained and lifeless body, but the investigation leaves only more questions and no answers. Had there been a simple stasis malfunction, the mass of the blood would still be present, somewhere-- but where was it?

How did this happen? Who could have done such a thing? What should they do now?

In any case, Stasis is beginning. SWYMIR reminds the crew that the introduction of error to the mission caused by further delay would be unacceptable.

The ship's computer voice comes over the system as the crew returns to their chambers, their minds filled with concern and doubt. They climb into their chambers and activate the stasis cycles, hopeful that the next Wake Cycle, at least, will begin without incident.

But in their chambers, two crewmembers, at least, spare an extra moment to run certain script macros on the systems. And two others slip quietly into the chambers, confident that they will not spend the *entire* Stasis in sleep....

DAY TWO BEGINS

Postby mortaine » Thu Jun 16, 2005 6:27 pm

ATTENTION. STARDATE 16.6.2505. WAKE CYCLE BEGIN. ALL CREW REPORT TO STATIONS. STASIS CYCLE WILL RE-COMMENCE IN FIVE DAYS, AT 21.6.2505.

The crew awakens uneasily. It is impossible to dream in Stasis, but it's not uncommon to have half-dreams while shifting from stasis to full wakefulness. For many of the thirteen human crewmembers on the Stephen Carr, those half-dreams are full of dark, bestial nightmares, a sense of being hunted, picked off like lobsters in a chef's tank.

Normally, the crew would simply go straight to their tasks, re-calculating the ship's path and performing system diagnostics and maintenance. Today, however, they all also check over the Duty Roster to see if their colleagues and co-workers have checked in.

One by one, the duty reports come in:

Captain Surly: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Dr. Schme: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Commander Dee: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Dr. Smart: REPORTING FOR DUTY
SWYMIR: ONLINE
Dr. Meisora: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Lt. Nick: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Lt. Shmeashter: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Master Mikki: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Mr. Floyd: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Mr. Nixit: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Dr. Sparkle: REPORTING FOR DUTY
Lt. Farmer: REPORTING FOR DUTY

The crew waits, breathless, for Dr. Slayer to report in. After all, they reason, he must be distracted by one of his silly inventions, right? Or perhaps indulging in his many unprofessional passions?

But as ten minutes pass, then twenty, the sinking mood aboard the ship deepens. Dr. Sparkle, now the only crew member with advanced medical training, goes with Mr. Floyd and Mr. Nixit-- both armed with shocksticks "just in case"-- to Dr. Slayer's chambers to ensure he's all right.

The stasis chamber is open a slight crack, as if it had been cycled to wake status. Sparkle, Floyd, and Nixit enter cautiously-- the two technicians have their shocksticks out, and they circle around the stasis chamber carefully.

It is Dr. Sparkle who finally reaches a hand forward and lifts the stasis chamber door to fully open. She makes a short cry when she sees the pale, lifeless face of Dr. Slayer still inside the chamber. In his right hand, he holds a small titanium object, shaped like a spoon but with three prongs on the bowl, like a fork.

Dr. Sparkle's inevitable medical investigation shows the mathematician died of rapid blood loss during stasis. There is a series of four puncture marks on his neck, in two pairs. The pairs are about five inches away from each other, and each puncture is an inch or so apart from its mate.

On the spoon-fork, the "spork" as he had called it, there's a fiber from Dr. Slayer's own uniform, as if it had been wiped off before stasis-- or during. But the prongs of the spork do not match the punctures in Dr. Slayer's neck.

As Dr. Sparkle gives her report to the rest of the crew, now gathered on the bridge, the questions immediately come to everyone's minds. How did this happen? Who could have done such a thing? And how can they, the crew, stop this from happening again?

*with everyone on the bridge she knows that panic is going to happen, and in her job she knows they should calm down* Everyone, I want you to take a deep breath and relax before you start asking questions. How about we try with one question at a time.. Anyone want to go first?

She starts speaking slowly
You don't think he killed himself, do you? He didn't kill himself with his spork, right?

From what the report says, the prongs of the spork do not match the punctures in his neck.. *she sighs* It seems that we have some.. something on here with us that seems to be able to walk around while we are all in stasis. We need to get down to the bottom of this, and we need to do it soon.. Are there any other questions from others?

OBSERVATION

*All of the colonists were in lock-down during the last stasis cycle. If there is a killer on the ship it would have to be one of the Senior Crew Members.
