Monsters!!! Just kidding, anyway, I think that, as a simulation of a different world, we could fit some strange/weird animals that don't exist otherwise. They wouldn't be like monsters that attacked people or anything like that, but just some made up animals to give the place a bit of flavor. Not to mention you could fit in material drops from certain animals, imagine a creature that has some protective organic iron plates under it's skin, giving a small supply of iron when you kill it. Just an idea that floated into my head, it certainly would make it interesting.

Clams. If you kill them you'll get alittle shell, some meat, and maybe a pearl. Shell could make jewelry or wampum. Meat eaten raw or cooked, and the pearl for decorations.

But they don't exactly run around and attack people. They're generally limited (the larger ones, on the ocean floor) to closing their shells around a diver's arm, trapping him. They're dangerous only because they can drown someone by holding their arm or leg until the oxygen runs out.
I'm not dead; I'm dormant.

I've never ever hearda good reason against it.
I rationalized it for my friend from Vietnam, who was baffled why the Americans freaked out when he talked about how to cook a dog. Basically, I see an aversion in western cultures towards eating cats, dogs, horses, oxen, mules, usw because they are useful labor animals. Why eat the animal that pulls the plow, herds the sheep, or clears the mice out of the barn? Then there are rats, spiders, and insects which have the stigma of being disease ridden scavengers or poisonous.
That's just what I came up with though. As Vu pointed out though - where he grew up in the jungle, if you see something move and you're hungry enough you'll eat it.
As for the clams, that would be great. Along with crabs - if ya'll dig 'em up I'll bring the Old Bay and the big stone pot! Meet me in Lake Village with 2 kg of wood.

Unless its an African Porcupine it is unrealistic and not done in RL. Porcupines would add quills for decoration and the same for guard hair. But no weapon.
