Wow. That's not a safe world to live in. I'm very glad it's changed.

There were people that didn't like those changes and probably don't still but I think it makes the game more realistic and makes people have to cooperate with each other. All things I support. :D

Indeed. Well, it makes it more realistic. In the real world, a guy with a sword hacking everyone to death would wake some people up.

I see the need for the rule changes, and in all fairness I agree with them. I'm just waiting for the day when a village will be organized to attack another village. Has this ever actually happened?

I consider it most unlikely that it ever will now. Indeed the tiredness and skills systems have rendered conflict all but impossible. I for one don't see this as a good thing, not at the level implemented. Such conflicts as there are, are now almost entirely "dragging contests" which heavily favor the defensive.

For example, when the Barons attacked Blaman Mountains South, it was essentially a dragging contest. They managed to capture or kill the mayor when he went off somewhere to look for food--a complete blithering idiot, he didn't coordinate with anyone whether there was still food in the town, but just wandered off. Deserved to die, actually. Anyhow, the Barons then attacked the town by dragging people into a locked building for which they now had a key but the new sheriff didn't.

So far, all "conflicts" I've witnessed are of this pattern. And such conflicts tend in any case to be restricted to small communities in the middle of nowhere. Anyhow, Cantr is now -the- preeminent game for people who like to roleplay tailors and bakers and such in large towns, and who whine like crazy if anyone gets hurt. Most others left a while back. And of course this suits a small coterie of "power playing" staff members who tend to control the major towns in any case--at least those considered "historically significant".

All newly programmed efforts therefore tend to be crushingly conservative in outcome with a heavy emphasis on the defensive. If you possess the keys to the town, a crowbar and shield and sufficient healing food, and wake up at least once every few days, you cannot be ousted. Period.

Hey!

Even if that is true... you didn't have to be so blunt...

How was he supposed to know that Fritter was a homicidal maniac intent on killing everyone?

When Rhodri returned from a food gathering expedition, the mayor failed to talk to him at all, failed completely to coordinate new steps for the defense of the town after Alleyrose died and that other fellow ran off with most of the valuables. By then many of the locks were compromised. The mayor failed to exercise any leadership at all. Surely not your character? Anyhow, I'm just telling it like I saw it.

Could you make a new thread in the "Suggestions" area if you have solution or at least an improvement for the combat problems? I'd like to see some good ol' conflict, just not so unbalanced.

There's no problem with the combat system really... It's never gonna get better, no matter how you change it.

It's just those damn 100% pasifist newspawns. Why is it that whenever someone spawns and sees a couple people fighting, they autimaticaly class that place as "violent in their chars mind", and go off to find some other, safer place even though they shouldn't even know a safer palce exists. If you're born in a violent atmosphere, it should be normal to you, right? Gah.

Sociologist, that happens all the time, it is happening right now as I right this. It happened a couple blocks away from my home last night. It's called guerilla (or, in the case example, gang) warfare. It usually is common way of fighting among groups with limited resources and too few people to create or to need a formal army. It is done because this is the best way to do it.

In truth, in Cantr, that is essentially the only way to go about it.

That's spot on...the Barons have adjusted their style of attack to a guerilla style offensive. If you think about this historically, its just as Schme points out. When a group is too small to be considered an army they will turn to guerilla tactics to win.

I don't think all massacres are over...I should say...I KNOW all massacres aren't over.

Oh quite so. Don't think for a moment I was implying any criticism of the technique used. It was an excellent tactic in the circumstances. :) I was just pointing out that here was a case of defenses being overwhelmed precisely through the use of dragging techniques which usually favor the defenders.

Alas poor Deputy Sheriff Rhodri--but then thanks to the skills system, the poor loser couldn't even have killed a pigeon...not even if he sat on it for a year.

This thread has convinced me too give this entire game another try! *clap* Seriously, I apperently got the short end of the stick when it came to mindless massacres, and many of my characters were simply getting started out with a job and then was sabred to death, but if this is true then perhaps I can really get into it (A few of my characters did, but the dead ones outweighed my spirit to play). Of course, I'm not 100% against violence, it has a purpose, protecting against scavengers, disposing of shipmates who turned out to be theives (hehe), but the mindlessness of the ones I suffered appalled me, I didn't know such a thing could exist in such an intelligent game without good reason, but now my hopes are up again, maybe I'll be able to get into this wonderful game without the shadow of some idiots at their computers killing everything in sight.

You must have just had particularly bad luck. I've had like 40 different chars and not one has been murdered, rarely even ever hit. I had one char who was in Kwor when the pirates were killing everyone but she had the good sense to flee down the road since there wasn't a thing she could do to hurt them or protect herself.

Anyway. glad you're giving it another try.

My experience too, though not with anything like 40 characters of course, unless you mean it in the biblical sense. I had a charrie in Klojt when it was attacked, but the only ones who actually died hadn't been speaking for years and already looked pretty ragged and chewed up.
