Plaques

Postby SickGerm » Sun May 29, 2005 9:12 pm

I pulled this out of the topic (More Dynamic Naming) I felt that it was more a suggestion than an add on to it.

I like the idea of having some way to distuinguish ancient weapons as relics but if it were to change the name of it for everyone it should be like an added plaque or something that you put on the weapon or tool.

a person whohas no plaque on there items you would see this

You can see her holding:
a used composite recurve bow;
a used dung-fork;
a new steel sabre;
a used wooden shield.

one with a plaque would look like this

You can see her holding:
a used composite recurve bow;
a used dung-fork(Property of YOURBUISNESSNAMEHERE);
a new steel sabre(King Aradon's Blade);
a used wooden shield.

this would help catch thieves to theyd have to remove the plaque with a chisel or something but if you remove a plaque from a relic it becomes useless and it would have to be programmed so each plaque can only be used once or people could make conterfeits this way if you want to use them to identify a buisnesses tools you'd just use a serial number. . . ill stop typing now

I think that perhaps you should have to have a bit of iron or steel to make the plaque, because otherwise, it just gets a bit weird.

Also, I think it might make more sense if you could only read the plaque if you were holding the thing, as if you only have a tiny little plaque, well, it's hard to read from far away.

Just a thought, though.

But I don't know about only using one plack once. Couldn't you put a new plaque on the thing, after chiseling it off?

Yes I was thinking that it should cost some iron and require a chisle and hammer to make one the a project to add the plaque to the object wich might not be possible as they would have to make a different project for each item. I guess it would be cool to if when you took the plaque off with a chisel you could reuse it by putting it on another tool.

Edit: i think you should be able to read the plaque by examining the person otherwise it would be hard to sell relics and would not be able to be used to keep track of your tools.

First off, I have never seen an iron plaque. You're much more likely to use copper or bronze in game, or silver or gold. And it would be more trouble than it is worth in my opinion, to let them be reusable. That would mean that there will be a locked room somewhere in the game with 10,000 plaques.

I like relics, but this idea needs some more clear thought. Make the plaque irremovable. Let wood and bone be simply engravable on their own, use paint on hide or wood, let blades be etched with a chisel. There are alot of ways of doing this.

Plaques should be made from copper or tin.

I forget what they're called but we could have one of those pointy tools that burns an engraving into wood (usable only if there is a firepit or fireplace at the location). If a char has this tool, a hammer, some copper or tin and a chisel they could start an engraving business.

It doesnt really matter what the plaque is made of I have seen Iron plaques on trophies and such nor does it matter if its removable or not id just like some way of distinguishing your stuff from someone elses stuff and a way to have relics. I liked the idea of the engraver.

also i think the plaque should be removable otherwise you would never be able to sell tools if you put a plaque on them to say they are yours. you dont nessissarily have to be able to reuse them tho removing a plaque could also destroy it.

I'd rather see a "view" icon next to item names in inventories, and have engraving as a project.

You'd click the little eye next to the "sabre"

and you'd see, "It is made of steel and looks slightly worn. 'Excalion' is inscribed on the hilt"

or something. Have an engraving knife or something be a tool you can use to engrave with. Maybe something with a 1g diamond tip?

How would an iron plaque work on a bow? I like TatteredShoeLace comments on this.

You could carve your name into things with knifes...

Thats a waste, IRL I wouldn't put a plaque on wood or bone, I'd scrape a knife across and block-letter 'TSL Rulz'

This game needs much more important things....like a use for my new coke oven.
